Memberwinston, was it a typo when you referred to this 1 person as “they” because its what is throwing me off as far as my questioning and why im asking if you know the person and he’s acting as someone else…..

MemberLexapro: It’s one person! Probably was just a typo.
Winston: Keep the Command Prompt open. Check what is in there before you Direct Connect to him/her and what gets added after you direct connect. The thing that got added after you direct connected is the person’s IP address. Now if that doesn’t work tell us what happened.

ParticipantBecause this is a college LAN, the AOL servers will see you both under the same external IP address, meaning that you will probably not be able to locate their internal (LAN) IP. (Once you direct connect, you will be “proxy-ing” though your external IP address, and you may see “him” as the same address as you. I’m not sure how the AOL server could possibly get you to sync up with a client on the same LAN when you are not providing the server with your “real” LAN IP address.

ok I understood half of that….what are you trying to say to me then?

MemberWell I think he’s trying to say that you can’t get the internal IP address from the one that’s threatening you. What confuses me is that people got oither people’s internal IP adddresses…hm. Well anyway Winston try what I told you to do and if that doesn’t work then David is right and the only way would be the hit counter website thing…you’ll have to think of a good reason for him/her to click on it though.

ParticipantWhat I’m saying is, I don’t think you will be able to acquire an IP when the person is on the same internal network as you are.
But try it out with your friend first?

-quikThat would not work either, unless she hosted a webserver on her own computer, an outside website with such a “trap” would only record the IP of the entire college network, revealing nothing.

MemberDid he clearly state he is using a college computer? Winston are you getting access to the internet from the colllege or are you providing your own access? Plus he/she that’s doing the threatening might not be using a college computer…so it’s still worth a try.

MemberI would definatly not direct connect with the person, he/she might be very tech savy, and could gain access to your computer.
-or-
If you try this, take a screenshot of the command promt and exit aim, both the program and the task running in the background. go to paint and hit paste.

MemberAnother thing to think about…is whether or not you used a PC at the coffee shop on/near campus…etc…. Someone could easily have been watching what PC you were on and then gained access to all sorts of passwords and information and whatnot with a simple keylogger. My guess is that your IT department will be your best bet. Ask them if you can connect in their department at times you know this freak to be on..they’ll be able to do all sorts of things and at a faster pace than you (no offense…but I know that’s true for me as well!! It’s what I would do!) It’s just a thought…make the college work for you 😉
