*This review contains spoilers* 😉
Being a crazy Potter fan, I had to go see this movie, considering Goblet of Fire was my favorite book of the series thus far. I absolutely loved it, sure some things were cut out and transitions could have been better, but I found myself on the edge of my seat the whole time even though I already knew what was coming.
Overall I found the acting superb. All actors/actresses were brilliant, even if their part was small. I was a bit dissapointed in Michael Gambon’s portrayal of Dumbledore, however. He wasn’t quite how I imagined Dumbledore from the book, he seemed too high strung and a bit mean. Now I know he was supposed to be worried about all the mysterious events occuring, but he seemed to elevate it a bit much, especially after Harry’s name came out of the Goblet. That was seriously a scary Dumbledore moment.
The effects were great too, far better than what the earlier movies had, that’s for sure. This movie was not an easy one to get into movie format, seeing as almost every little detail in the book lead up to the graveyard scene. I think it was done exceptionally well, even though some things were left out, and like I said, transitions were another weak point. The movie as a whole, however was outstanding. The flow may have been a bit rough, but it was made up for with extraordinary effects and brilliant acting.
And now on to Voldemort, erm I mean You Know Who,…simply amazing! I’m glad they didn’t mutilate Ralph Fiennes’ face too much either 😮 Voldemort is probably one of the most difficult roles to play and appeal to die hard fans, and I must say that I was more than pleased. The audience was literally silent during the entire graveyard scene, it was that intense. Voldemort has to be charming as well as evil, and Fiennes played that role perfectly. He seriously gave me the creeps, he was somewhat seductive as well as evil..creeeepy!
So that is my review, and I hope some of y’all saw the movie too, because I want to discuss it 😀
Overall Grade: A-

In my opinion, this one is the best yet, they only keep getting better. I agree with you about Dumbledore, he did seem almost too, evil in this movie, not the gentle and always Dumbledore I portrayed from the book. I also must add this, every year I go and I drag my father along with me, and every year at the end, when it’s over, I get to play 20 questions with my dad becuase he is lost, becuase he never read the book. I think they movies are so much better when you read the book, and you have a clue what is going on.
November 21, 2005 at 2:09 pm #133752KudoParticipantI read the book too and I have to agreed that the film did lose some points on a few issues.I think most Potter fans will enjoy this although people like myself who likes movies to stick to the book (especially this one) should perhaps stay away since they may not be able to tolerate how much has been missed out. 😀 anyway I enjoyed this film although Prisoner of Azkaban remains my favourite! :p
November 24, 2005 at 6:28 am #133751colinMemberI just saw it, and loved it. Of course, the movie missed so much information that was in the book, but I can deal with that. The movie would have been so much better for me if there weren’t popular high schoolers talking and laughing the whole time, a baby crying, and a little kid talking to his dad (loudly!) throughout the whole movie.
P.S.
I just read Dr. Kimbles review and I definitely agree with Dumbledore acting way too angry and even violent. I thought when Dumbledore grabbed Harry after his name got drawn, that was completely different from what Dumbledore has ever been portrayed as in the books.November 28, 2005 at 3:30 am #133754MrOatsMemberDr Kimble wrote:I had to go see this movie, considering Goblet of Fire was my favorite book of the series thus far. … Overall I found the acting superb. Excellent for the most part. I was disapointed with Dumbledore’s portrayal also. What happaned to Mr.-Nice-Guy-Albus from the book?
Brock, I also preordered tickets. When I went to preorder, the workers at the theater were putting up SOLD OUT signs and announcements like crazy for it… Thus why I always preorder.
Many parts from the book were left out.., but I still like this movie the best out of all the Harry Potter Movies. This movie very high edge and jam packed with action.
My score: 4/5 stars. Get out there now and see it folks! 😉
