Jabber is an open-source IM client that uses XML to handle message exchange. To work with other IM software, the Jabber server must have a “translator” that converts the Jabber XML to the appropriate IM format. These translators are available as server extensions.
There are currently extensions available for Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger and AIM. I looked at it briefly, but wasn’t really impressed.
My question is this: have you used Jabber? What do you like or dislike about it? Is there room in the IM market for Jabber?
Jabber is open source. Whatever that means its still a good IM. It does its thing without adds, without a weather forcast, hell its just an IM, I need an IM thats interoperable up to the limit of the big boys who “own” IM, I for one like it, it works, its stable, on my system wont bump into other programs and just quietly does its thing without fanfare. Hell, I love it.
