So… I’ve decided to invest in a new media center. HDTV, probably a Bluray player, maybe a new sound system, etc.
Anyone here have any suggestions, things to look for or avoid, etc? I’m hoping to keep the TV around or under $1000. I know I want a (preferably widescreen) LCD HDTV, probably Samsung or Sony (maybe LG), between 35-45 inches.
Help! Point me in the right direction.

I have had my 47″ Vizio Gallevia for over a year and I love it. I use it with cable for HD programming (hooked up through an HD TiVo), and I’ve also hooked up my Xbox 360 and my PC (it looks great!).
Sony and Samsung are both good, but you’ll pay more for them.
As for Bluray, I’m not so excited about it. More and more I’m downloading content and watching either via my Xbox or my TiVo (both can stream from Netflix now). I’ve also downloaded moves and entire TV series (Dexter) from Amazon Unbox to my TiVo. Unless you plan on renting a lot of Blu-ray movies, I don’t think it’s necessary.
The exception would be if you also wanted to play games, in which case you’d have a perfect excuse to get a Playstation 3 (which of course, doubles as a Blu-ray player).
As for sound, I”m very happy with my Kenwood amplifier and my Energy Take 5 surround speakers.
Vizio can be found at a lot of retailers, and even Costco. The Energy Take 5 speakers may be tougher to find, and there may be something newer out there. The amp you can probably find online and shop for the best deal.
Good luck, and have fun!
