MemberHello everyone,
I am new here and I have a head ache problem with yahoo messenger. The problem is that when I log into yahoo messenger. Everything is fine, but after 5 or so miniutes of idleing. Yahoo no long responses, everything looks fine but I can’t get into chatroom, nor can people recieve my IM/PMs(I don’t recieve any either). So I would have to re-login and everything is fine. I have disabled ideling, and I am using Yahoo Messenger 5.5 1254. I’ve tried updateing and it sitll gives me the same problem.
Does anyone know how I can fix this ? Thank you for taking your time to read.

Memberwell ill see what i can do for ya as there seems to be a few things you can try in order to fix this….. Firstly b4 u go messin wid stuff clear out your browsers “cache” and “cookies” restart and see how it goes… if tht dont work then i suggest you either uninstall the yim u have and reinstall it or goto http://messenger.yahoo.com/ and install the new messenger… if you still find you have problems find yourself a registry cleaner and clean your registry, then run the usual virus/spyware scans and restart… if ya STILL got problems (which i dont think u will have but u might) then come post bck and ill keep lookin for a solution for ya while ya try tht out :woot: hope it helps

MemberThank you for replying.
But sadly that didn’t help. Do you think there could be some sort of miss-communication with my linksys WCG-200 and yahoo messenger? Or could it be a bad connection/port problem? I really don’t understand why it does that. I thought by updateing my messenger, it will go away. But the problem remains.

I am running windows XP home version with SP2. And it is probaly my computer …. But thank you again for trying to help.
Edit – I have two computers in my house and one is a linksys wireless and I’m on the linksys cable gateway. Could that by any chance be a problem?

MemberOh, I don’t play games online and I haven’t really been in chat much lately. I do know a fair amount of people. But I will be shocked if they are that type of people since they don’t seem to be.
And I tried Trillian yesterday, but it just didn’t feel like something I’d get used to. I can’t seem to use more than one name and it was really confusing. Overall, I really like how simple yahoo looks but it just seems there is some sort of connection problem for me.. I wish I can figure it out. Thank you for trying to help me though.
I think I was using yahoo messenger version ymsgr 5.6 1334 or 1341. Maybe one of them and it worked perfectly fine. Do you know prehaps where I can find those versions ? Thank you.

MemberThank you again for trying to help me. I’ve located some older versions but not much help. And that site is scary. And some of the links make me so suprised! @_@. I guess I better get used to idling in a busy chatroom. Yahoo dosen’t stop repsonding if I’m in a chatroom..only when I’m not doing anything on yahoo..I wonder if there is a way to make yahoo messenger think that it’s not idleing…

Membergo into your preferences on yim and set the “show me idle after” to a really high non realistic number like 999….. c wht happens

MemberThat didn’t work either…
I spent all morning reading and looking around the internet, and I wonder if it could be that I need a static IP ? Yahoo was working fine for me long time ago untill we hooked up a 2nd computer to the internet. Could that be a problem ?

Memberit may well be but if thats the case then its a connection problem with ya network – and i dont know enough to aid you im afraid…
hope ya sort it soon 😀February 21, 2006 at 2:30 pm #138379iusedto
MemberIt’s kind of you to try and help me this much. Thank you very much for taking your time. :).
So…Does anyone know much about static IPs and network and linksys routers and that kind of stuff? Help would be greatly appreciated, hehehe.

Thank you.Try here. All older versions of Yahoo! Messenger can be found there, i’d recommend version 6.0 and higher only as 5.0 and below aren’t supported too much by yahoo anymore.

MemberThank you for the link. I have book marked it. Althought I’ve already tried version 6.0 and it still gives me problem. I really wonder if it has to do with router issues since I am on a WCG-200 model Cable Gateway by Linksys and the other computer is connected with a wireless connection. So I’m kind of assuming it could be a static IP problem.
Edit – After doing some more re-search and testing yahoo messenger on my computer and the other computer ( Which they both stop responding after 5 minutes or so ) I do belive it could be an IP problem. The question I now have ( which will hopefully solve this problem ) is how do I set up static IP for my computer ( I’m on a Windows XP ) and the other computer is Windows ME.
Thank you for reading. 🙂
