MemberHello UsedTo.
I’ve been following with interest. There “should” be no reason why your ISP, network setup, YM should be a problem.
Perhaps it is now to call Comcast, and (try to!?) put the ball back in their court. I’ve no idea about them specifically, but generally ISPs offer a good clear line to you, and if you’re not getting that they’re anxious to fix it (for no charge, of COURSE).
However they often (with justification) will tell you that THEIR end is just fine, it’s a problem YOU have …. which may or may not be true, and is almost impossible for you to determine. Perhaps just briefly tell them the problem and ASK if there’s any way they can “check” your line.
By the way, is it only when you’re on YM that you have these problems ? Can you use other programs without getting dropped, or does the same thing happen – even sometimes – when you’re NOT on YM ?
(My feeling actually is maybe it’s some router setting you have that YM doesn’t like, but I’m not a router expert 🙁 )

MemberI suggest you have a look at http://www.portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm for setting up a static IP in windows xp,also have a look at http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Comcast/WCG200-CC/Yahoo_P2P_Instant_Messages.htm so you can forward the relivant ports(once you have the static IP setup)to that static IP address,(ie)port range from 5000-5010 for voice chat,5101 for yahoo instant messaging.
Hope this information helps.
edit** not sure if you have a -CC wireless,I believe the second link is for a WCG200-CC wireless, but I could be wrong.

MemberThank you for the help.
I have gotten alot of information. Now I will try to issue static IP for both of the computer. Hopefully this will fix the yahoo messenger stop responding problem.
Edit – A let down…Hm..Maybe I input the static IP address incorrectly. But both computer can connect to the internet still… I choose a IP address within my cable gateway range, input the subnet-mask, dns server and default gateway…or Maybe it isn’t an static IP address problem after all…anyone have any idea..?

MemberYou will probably have to disable dhcp first before assigning static IP’s to both computers,,but before you can start configuring your gateway you will have to contact your ISP and ask if any static IP’s have been assigned to your Internet account as pointed out earlier by hatedjealously.Revert back to your previous settings, use the first link I provided earlier to get back to your TCP/IP settings and tick obtain IP address automatically, and obtain dns server automatically.
When you find out from your ISP if you have a static IP assigned, then you can continue configuring your gateway. As you said it may not be a connection issue at all,it could simply be a messenger issue.

Member🙂 Thank you for replying,
No, my ISP didn’t assign an static IP. And when you say disable DHCP, I am suppose to disable to one in my gateway right ? And after I have set a static IP once again, do I keep the DHCP disable in my gateway or do I enable it back again ?

MemberYou won’t be able to set static IP address manually unless you have a static IP from Comcast which you stated you don’t have, and from what I’ve read on the internet comcast don’t provide static IP to their customers. So ignore my previous posts, and sorry if I caused any miscommunication.
Nor will you be able to setup port forwarding, because port forwarding requires static IP,I’m not sure what you can do at this stage, your best bet would be to contact your ISP and ask them if they could allow communication on those ports I mentioned ealier, yahoo ports. It could be a traffic issue,inbound-outbound.Do you use yahoo messenger on both computers?Or just one?

MemberOh I See.. Yahoo messenger is used on both computers.
” It could be a traffic issue,inbound-outbound ” That makes sense.
