Started a collection of away messages and my HD crashed, but only the boot sector. I have all the files that were on it, and I was wondering if anyone knows where AIM stores the away messages (if anywhere), or how to recover them.
Thanx
-ChrisThey are stored in the System Registry.
Start -> Run -> RegEdit.
Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareAmerica OnlineAOL Instant Messenger (TM)CurrentVersionUsersIAmGoneSpecialCasesIf they aren’t there, then you cannot recover them.

and if that doesn’t work: Google: awaymessages.exe
only one result will show. its a program which makes backups and/or recovers lost away messages. Worked for me.
