I just got a webcam yesterday, and followed the directions and set the darn thing up. My problem is with IM Companion. When I send the invite to someone, that works. It opens up a window, BUT it just says connecting, and then will say connection failed. Now, I even tried to see myself and it didn’t work. My room mate can see me though. Most people can’t get it to work. I’ve tried just about every application there is and I’m getting frustrated with it. I think it may have something to do with the ports, but maybe not. I would greatly appreciate any help on the subject. Thanks!
What webcam did you get?
Which OS are you using?
Have you tried using the software that came with the webcam to make sure the webcam is installed and connected properly (for Logitech webcams that’d be “ImageStudio”)?
Have you tried using Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger 6 to have a webcam conversation with someone?
I have a Logitech Quickcam Express. I’m using XP, and I’ve installed the software that came with it. I wonder, does the person have to have IM Video Companion to watch me, or does that matter? I think it has something to do with the port settings, and I have no clue on how to mess with that. I’ve tried every program out there…Yahoo, MSN, Eyeball Chat, and even some no names like PalChat. I’ve also tried Net Meeting, which leads me to believe it’s the ports.
I believe that when someone gets the invitation to watch your cam through the IM Companion app. they are requested to download a program, but not the IM Companion itself.
Do you have any firewall software installed, or are you perhaps using a router?
