We are testing the Disqus comment system for our news and tutorials — all the stuff that appears outside of our forums. I’d like your feedback.
What’s that? You didn’t know there was anything beside our forums?! Yep, there’s a whole world of IM and social media news, tutorials and even humor. Start here, then click on an article and leave a comment.
The new comment system is powered by Disqus, which lets you login using your existing Facebook, Twitter, OpenID or Disqus account. If you don’t want to use any of those, you can post a comment as a guest, too!
I need people to test using the various login methods, and try some of the options. For example, if you login with Facebook, you can have your comment posted to your wall (it’s optional, but still needs testing). If you login with Twitter, you can have your comment tweeted (again, it’s optional). And you can subscribe to get email notification of new comments, and even vote on comments (like it, hate it). And resort the comments! Tons of options, but a pretty clean interface.
Anyhow, give it a try. Leave a comment or two, and please reply here with your findings. Hopefully I’ll hear that it all worked great and you love it, but I definitely want to hear the bad and the ugly as well.
Thanks for your help! Reps up to everyone who helps test and posts their findings!

But since that’s a classic PEBKAC problem, you won’t have to worry about it.
August 27, 2009 at 2:40 am #175620TigerbladeParticipantPosting with OpenID was smooth, except for the part where I almost couldn’t remember my password. But, as that’s a classic PEBKAC issue, I don’t expect there’s much you can do about that.
Logging in with my Disqus account… the page refreshed but still showed me as posting as a guest. Once I refreshed the page again, it showed my username like it should have.
Also, one little thing that was weird… when I posted a comment, it stuck to the top of the comment thread (making it appear to be chronologically descending, newest first). But when I went back to the thread a minute later, it was at the bottom (oldest first). Is this a glitch? A feature?
August 27, 2009 at 2:52 pm #175618FanaticMemberYou can control the sort order as a user, and I can control the default sort order. I haven’t tweaked the settings, and I believe the default shows the “most popular” posts first (based on “likes” and whatever else I have no idea).
I don’t like how when you first sign in, it refreshes the entire page. But it does seem to work okay, and will remember you from then on.
Also, it seems like avatars from the “old” comments have mostly (completely?) disappeared. Kind of a bummer, but less important over time.
August 30, 2009 at 3:58 pm #175621MrOatsMemberI posted using Facebook about the Trillian Astra 4.0 article and it was a success.
I wasn’t sure on how to post it to my wall though…
