My Problem:
- My chat room text/urls/smiliys posts don’t show up in any Yahoo Chat room for others.
- I don’t think its chat client related, because I’ve used: Yahoo/YahELite/Y!mLite/Yazak ect..
- It is ID related. Any of my other ID’s work perfectly with all Yahoo chat clients.
- It seems that it only happens for 12hrs or so at a time.
- I have 3 different PC’s, same problem on all of them, with all Yahoo chat clients and all versions of the clients on the same ID only.
- I’ve gotten new WAN IP addresses on my ADSL with no luck.
- My text does show on my screen but not on anyone else’s.
- I have even tried a fresh format/install of XP Pro and only Yahoo IM installed. Same results.
Is there a exploit/script/hack that someone can or could use to text ban my ID in Yahoo chat? And if so How do I stop it or how is it done?
I’ve been having this problem since 7-25-08 to present. Any and all help or suggestions will be appreciated.
August 2, 2008 at 5:55 pm #170781imported_Ven0mMemberCould be an exploit, or Yahoo’s servers messing with you. Probably no way to resolve it at the moment, other than contacting Yahoo about the problem.
August 3, 2008 at 2:27 am #170785chaosMemberHow do I contact Yahoo, about this problem and will they do anything about it?
August 4, 2008 at 9:00 pm #170786chaosMemberUpdate:
I am currently in communication with Yahoo, about not being able to post text in Yahoo chat. We have concluded that its not my firewall or network settings causing the problem. We have concluded that it is ID related somehow, because I can use any other ID’s in chat and post text just fine. just not with the one ID. Its also not a client related problem because as of today I have tried almost all clients Yahoo’s, and third party ones.
I am almost 99% positive that this has to be a Hack/Script/Exploit/Bug.
Please, if anyone has any ideas or know of any exploits, hacks, scripts, or anything about this sort of problem, post it here.
Thanks for your help…
Chaos 🙁August 31, 2008 at 1:31 am #170787chaosMemberMe posting here was a waste of time. I guess that I must be the only one in the world that has seen or even heard of this problem… Just go in to Windows:2 in yahoo chat and ask any regular in the room and you will see what I say is true… But nobody not even yahoo has a clue…

September 2, 2008 at 6:30 pm #170788chaosMemberAccording to yahoo its not them, and if it was why is it not on all id’s from the same PC? If it was a client problem or maybe a hardware issue then I might think that it was Yahoo, but that’s not the case here. Oh and if your wandering, Yes its still happening.

Well guess again,Your idea to resolve this issue, did not work again…
I am glad to find out after all this time its not me or my computer, and that Yahoo is now aware of the problem. So I guess that all of us chaters must bare the front of this exploit until Yahoo decides to fix it.
Thanks for trying 🙁

How would I know? I’ve been around Yahoo! Chat for a long time (many painful years of pleasure, it’s a love-hate relationship) and I started experiencing an ID-related problem as well. One of my accounts (including all aliases on it too) lacks the ability to receive “offline” messages, add buddy requests and so on. LoL. I found this to be quite strange when I first noticed that this was the case way back then. You’re not alone here.Quote:It seems that it only happens for 12hrs or so at a time.Even stranger. Can’t elaborate for you on this one.
Quote:I’ve gotten new WAN IP addresses on my ADSL with no luckIt’s not an IP-related issue at all, it’s a Yahoo! Chat server ID problem exclusively.
Quote:My text does show on my screen but not on anyone else’s.Your text shows up on your chat screen because Messenger is handing your message (what’s called a “string” of data) directly to the MSHTML control which in turn handles the rendering/display of your text inside the chat window in Messenger. This is a local operation so no IP packets (Yahoo! ‘YMSG’ chat room message packets) are sent out & forwarded to the room’s users by the chat servers (the Yahoo! Chat server problem isn’t an issue affecting you when you do this).
Quote:Is there a exploit/script/hack that someone can or could use to text ban my ID in Yahoo chat? And if so How do I stop it or how is it done?Definitely not an exploit at all. If it was an exploit it wouldn’t just be affecting you especially with this particular (and only) ID in question. Others would be getting hit with this in the masses. I can be certain that it’s not an exploit or a “hack” being used on you because I make a living professionally developing various software applications specifically around Yahoo! Chat/Yahoo! Messenger. Believe me if this was something new (or even old) I would’ve either discovered it on my own (I do my own independent hunting) or I would’ve at least heard mention of it.
As to “how” to pull something like this off – along the lines of text banning and completely silencing your messages to the room… well, I can think of only a single way and it definitely wouldn’t work (no need to try it). In theory, if the Yahoo! Chat servers didn’t validate and respect your IP to ID mapping (among other things), it could be done by flooding the chat room with messages spoofed from your ID. The chat server would receive the messages from the ‘attacker’ masquerading as your identity and would text ban your ID from sending to the room. While you’re banned (which is temporary and doesn’t last all too long depending…) none of the chatters in the room will see a single one of your chat messages.
Quote:Our engineers are already working on
this issue and plan to add the fix to the next set of enhancements for
Yahoo! Messenger.LoL. You’re being “played” here. It’s not being “worked on” because they’re totally unaware of how to resolve your issue (maybe ~3% or so of all Yahoo! Chatters experience serious ID-related quirks like yours and mine). They’re only telling you what you’d want to hear to pacify you.
Here’s a proposed workaround for you IF the ID that you are having problems with is an alias on your main account (chances are it’s not but this might be worth mentioning). Try deleting the ID entirely and then recreating it on a totally separate main Yahoo! account… kind of like transplanting an organ into someone elses body.
I don’t see any other logical ways of even attempting to resolve this freakish dilemma. Good luck to you.
September 8, 2008 at 3:40 am #170791floyd347MemberI have witnessed this happen on more than one occasion, not personally(yet), but to several other users on numerous id’s. This is defiantly a growing problem, and happening more frequently and needs to be addressed ASAP.
September 8, 2008 at 3:41 am #170790DivaMemberI also am having the no one being able to see my text in the chat room problem. I take exception to the 3% that torseq stated. Over half of the users in the room we hang in have experienced this problem. And, sometimes as with my id’s its one after the other. Text under our initial ID’s is somehow prevented..altho we can see it..others cant. we can still speak on mic. we can still PM with no problems. There is no problem logging in to our id’s or to yahoo. I have now had the text on my third id in a month hijacked. Whatever this is..seems to target speciffic users, and does not appear to be random. There are several reasons which i wont go into here that lead me to believe its an exploit or hack. The last two id’s i had that had the text taken..had no aliases. I buy that yahoo has no idea how to solve this problem, but i also dont believe this is just a yahoo bug. Someones found a hack or exploit. This started about a month ago and has escallated thru the regular members ..one by one. Yet i talk to other users that frequent other rooms and no ones heard of this particular problem. We have asked advice on more than one yahoo forum, every solution tried, with no success. This is something new and i guess we are just going to have to be patient till what ever this is, leaks out.
September 8, 2008 at 3:13 pm #170783imported_Ven0mMemberStill, overall compared to the rest of all the chat users out there, it’s more or less ~3% of all users this happens to. My advice would be to give up Yahoo Chat and try an alternate service like PalTalk, since Yahoo doesn’t have any interest at all to fix/address issues like this. But it makes me wonder if it’s some kind of anti-SPAM tactic that Yahoo has started to use to stop porn bots.
