MemberHi Mattekus – welcome to the BigBlueBall. 🙂
(No biggie, but I’ve moved your post here to a slightly more relevant section.)Just to clarify, I guess you click Messenger, Change Skin, then have the choice of: Bronze, Classic, Indigo, MaverickBlue – but selecting any of these then clicking OK does… absolutely nothing !? .. or is there any error message there ?

ParticipantI have not heard anything about any glitches with changing skins in any version of Yahoo, what I would suggest is doing a complete uninstall and reinstall and see if that fixes the problem. Let us know how it goes.

MemberMine wasn’t working either so this is what yahoo customer support sent me and it resolved my problem maybe it will yours as well.
Hello,
Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Messenger.
You may have a corrupt file in your Messenger directory. To fix the
problem, you must manually delete the “Messenger” directory on your C:
drive (default), then reinstall the Messenger program.1. Close the Messenger program if you currently have it running, also
please make sure all instances of Internet Explorer are closed.2. Go to your desktop and double-click on “My Computer.”
3. Click on “C:” drive.
4. Go to:
– “C:Program FilesYahoo!”
5. Highlight the Messenger folder and press the “Delete” key on your
keyboard. (All archives will be deleted if they are not copied. Please
see below.)The next step is to install:
1. Close all running programs except for your Internet browser.
2. Please visit the Messenger home page:
3. Click the “Get it now” button.
To copy your complete Message Archive:
1. Close Messenger (if it is currently running).
2. Go to your Desktop and double-click “My Computer.”
3. Select the C: drive.
4. Go to:
– “C:Program FilesYahoo!MessengerProfiles”
5. Your “Profiles” folder contains your complete Message Archive. Copy
it to the same location on another machine if you wish to view it
elsewhere.Please Note: If you copy this folder to another machine, your complete
Message Archive will be copied, overriding the Message Archive on the
machine to which you are copying.Furthermore, you can add new Skins by following the instructions
located
at the following URL:– http://messenger.yahoo.com/feat_skins.php
To personalize your Yahoo! Messenger with one of the Skins from the
Messenger page:1. Click Download to save a Skin as a .zip file to your hard drive.
2. Open the .zip file with WinZIP (or any other ZIP program).
3. Extract all the files into C:
– Click on Extract in the Menu
– Select “Local Disk (C :)”PLEASE NOTE: You do not need to put the files in a specific folder.
All you need to do is select ‘Local Disk (C:).”– Make sure that “Use folder names” is checked
– Click on “Extract”5. Select Change Skin from the View menu in Messenger.
6. Select the Skin you installed.
NOTE: If Yahoo! Messenger is installed on a different drive, replace
C:
with the appropriate drive letter.Please let us know if this does not solve the problem.
Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.
Regards,
Homer

Memberwell i did uninstalling and reinstalling…..then i did what william lee did…but that too did not work…i was wondering if this option is not working because of any corrupted files in the system ??
p.s this problem also started showing up recently…i can’t seem to transfer files or properly share photos….all the pictures comes blurred or unviewable…..June 7, 2006 at 1:49 pm #145725Eagle_Kiwi
MemberOh gee. 🙁
That’s really tough, Mattekus.At LEAST now we know it’s not “just” a skins problem – there’s obviously something amiss deep down, which is probably giving rise to the skins, the file transfers, photos, and maybe other problems there too.
Can I just check that you’re using XP(SP2?) – AND are u fairly confident you’re clear of viruses/spyware etc ?
Then I wonder if you’ve seen the Yahoo FAQs here on BBB, especially #1, which includes quite a few problem-solving ideas.
(And I notice that BBB FAQs suggest, for full reinstall, cleaning REGISTRY as well as all the other steps William/Yahoo quote. Perhaps you could try THAT as a last resort 🙁 )
Do let’s know how you get on. You deserve better than this from your YM.

Memberwell i use win98 mostly for my internet activities……does this hinder my usage of YM ???
June 7, 2006 at 6:19 pm #145733mattekus
Memberp.s it did not have any such problems previously……now thats whats really buggin me…..
June 7, 2006 at 6:55 pm #145729williamlee
Memberwindows 98 Isn’t part of the problem. as I use windows 98 on one of my computers and everything is working fine. Im not saying an upgrade wouldn’t be a good thing, because it is always good to keep things upgraded.
However I would not let not changing skins bug you too much. sometimes when I have an issue and cant seem to work it out I set it a side and come back to it on a later date and try again. sometimes this works out

I thought I saw once that YM 7.5 “needed” XP – but I now recheck (Yahoo help pages) and find:The system requirements for using Voice with Yahoo! Messenger are:
* Windows 98/2000/ME/XP
* Pentium class processor
* Internet Explorer (version 5.x or later)
* At least 64MB RAM
* A non-proxy connection to the Internet
* A microphone, sound card, and speakers
* DSP Group TrueSpeech™ audio compression (CODEC) softwareSo I guess W98 should be fine, though just because it is for someone does not necessarily mean it will therefore be fine for everyone.

I’ve heard MANY people over the last year or two upgrade their YM, find problems in the newer one, so go back and reinstall the older one – yet find those “new” problems were still there too.I guess the reason for that could well be some registry changes YM7.5 installation makes, but which DON’T get reset back even during a normal uninstall. Hence the suggestion of cleaning registry, in BBB FAQ #1.
Mattekus, I think that THAT is probably the next option for you, since I guess nothing else has worked, and you HAVEN’T actually done that extra step during your uninstall/reinstalls so far, I guess.
I wish you luck, but somehow my pessimistic gut-feeling says only about a 20% chance that that WILL cure all your current woes. 🙁

Memberwell so i went and unistalled the whole thing…..removed any refistry values ….then i reinstalled 98…then messenger..but the same prob remains…….
maybe if i tried the previous version it might work…do you know the links to where i can get the previous version of the messenger ??June 13, 2006 at 7:53 am #145737lupld
MemberPlease forgive me if I sound like I think I know it all, this is just what I’ve come to after 3 hours of nothing and staying up longer till 4 in the morning. I don’t know what is up with your messenger, mattekus, but I am having a similar problem. I have this habit of re-installing my computer once every 3-6 months and on the recent re-install, I had to re-download messenger. My first problem was with the installer, it kept giving me the message, “Yahoo! Suite Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close.” I tried to find the problem with google, but I only got one result and it didn’t help much. I located an installer for the 7.0 version, and that’s where my problems began. I believe it installed the 7.5 version anyway. It runs fine, but it didn’t install the “Shared” documents folder, and when I tried to create it Yahoo! acted as if I hadn’t changed a thing. My next try was to find the problem so I searched for the existing skins, indigo and maverick, but didn’t locate them anywhere…… What baffles me is that they are still functioning in the change skins menu, which must meen that either it saved somewhere else, or the skins were programmed into the messenger. On the other hand, I also changed my install location to drive K: Any help on this would be sweet
June 13, 2006 at 8:39 am #145738lupld
MemberMoral, don’t do anything when you are tired……… I kept messing with it and found that I installed it to drive K:, but the “Shared” folder was still put in drive C:, so I just copied the skins there and it worked………my problems solved, and mattekus, you need to elaborate……. can you change any skins at all, and did you download to a different drive too? I still haven’t thought of what could mess with file and photo transfer unless your connected through a proxie or something I’m yet to learn……. I’ll check back and see if I can figure anything out that would help……
