MemberHow about hiding IM contact information from guests on topic.asp? I really don’t mind getting contacted by people, but since guests can’t read profiles, and most people tend to be rude, they simply add me to their contact lists instead of trying to send me a message first.
Hiding the contact icons on topic.asp would at least solve part of the problem…If you don’t want to do it, that’s cool too, then I’ll just remove my contact info again ๐

KeymasterGood suggestion! That would at least cut down on the number of random contacts from people who don’t even bother joining.
I’m out of town until late Thursday, but I’ll take a look at the required code changes on Friday.

MemberIf you want, I can take a look at topic.asp and document the required code changes. Email them to you or post them here and then all you have to do is follow the instructions ๐ It’d save you some time and it’s no problem for me at all.

Memberlmao rhiannon… I’m too young to have kids, but thanks anyway ๐
Jeff, I assume you’ll want to go with the most basic option (nothing with database changes), so that’s what the following code changes are for:
topic.asp lines 626 and 627:Code:end if
if (strAIM = “1”) thenAdd the following line inbetween them:
Code:if (mLev > 0) then ‘## edit members-only contact infoLines 647 and the beginning of 648 (to keep this topic from stretching):
Code:end if
if ((Cat_Status 0 and Forum_Status 0 and Topic_Status = 1) orAdd the following line inbetween them:
Code:end if ‘## edit members-only contact infoThat will hide the IM contact links from guests in replies. Now for the topic’s opening post:
Lines 832 and 833 in topic.asp:Code:end if
if (strAIM = “1”) thenAdd the following line inbetween them:
Code:if (mLev > 0) then ‘## edit members-only contact infoLines 853 and the beginning of 854:
Code:end if
if ((Cat_Status 0 and Forum_Status 0 and Topic_Status = 1) orAdd the following line inbetween them:
Code:end if ‘## edit members-only contact infoNow for pop_messengers.asp find line 47 to 50:
Code:intMemberID = 0
end ifselect case Request.QueryString(“mode”)
Add the following above line 50:
Code:if (mLev = 0) then
Response.Write “You must be logged
in to use this feature!” & vbNewLine
WriteFooterShort
Response.End
elsePlease put the red lines back so they’ll be one line. I cut it in three to prevent horizontal scrolling a bit.
Now at the very bottom of pop_messengers, you should have this:
Code:WriteFooterShort
Response.End
%>Add the following before the last line:
Code:end ifAnd now when someone tries to go to pop_messenger.asp while not being logged in, (s)he will get an error saying they have to be logged in ๐

KeymasterSomebody give this man an award!
I’m on the road today, returning home from the KM World conference in Santa Clara. I’ll plug these edits in tomorrow morning.
Thanks, Roland!

You’re very welcome Jeff ๐ Glad I can do something for the community.October 19, 2003 at 10:00 am #54433Jeff Hester
KeymasterI’m implemented Roland’s suggested changes. If someone is not logged in, they won’t see your contact info in your posts.
Thanks again, Roland. ๐

MemberYou’re more than welcome Jeff ๐ Oh hey, did you get the acronyms I sent a while back?
Awww Rhiannon, don’t feel rejected or you’ll make me feel bad too… ๐
I’m sure there are other male “thinking members” on these forums that live closer to you than me… aren’t there any candidates among them? ๐ -
