Participantwhy arent there any sections on here for Miranda IM ? http://miranda-icq.sourceforge.net/ Its protocol support spans over multiple networks and nationalities, including ICQ, MSN, IRC, AIM, YAHOO, JABBER, GADU-GADU, etc.
Miranda is one of the few open source messengers for windows. it has heaps of encryption options. It is also the most lightweight for what it does, uses the least screenspace, is the only that has such customisabilty and extendability… do i need to go on any more 😉Also, there are TONNES more bloat free IM’s that you fail to mention on here .. e.g. GAIM, Everybuddy etc..
cmon guys, if you want to do ‘everything’ about instant messaging, then you should look at non commercial apps too 😉

KeymasterWell, actually, that’s exactly what this section is for… everything else. So all the info on Jabber, Miranda, Everybuddy and so on goes here. When it looks like there’s enough demand for it, I’ll glady create a new section for that messenger.
Right now, we have had discussions about Jabber, GAIM and Everybuddy (I can’t recall discussing Miranda); just not a lot of discussions. I’d be happy to add more info on others, but I need help. Would you be willing to help provide an overview on any Miranda or any other alternative IMs?
At the very minimum I’d like to add an overview of each of these messengers with their relative strengths and weaknesses. This could be linked from both the Alternative Messengers section as well as referenced on our Interoperability Matrix.

MemberHi Jeff,
Just found your board, and I’m like to say I think it’s great such a forum’s available. It would be nice to see some information available to both the public and professionals about other alternatives to the so-called “big three”, etc.If you’re willing to make a section for Sonork EIM, I promise you there will be plenty of discussions there!
Just for your info, Sonork’s been around for a while, and it’s a bit different than some of the other IM’s out there – besides being intended for private intranet IM networks, it’s IM app is actually built on top of a fairly powerful localization/presence detection and data transfer engine. It works great! I won’t get too far into it just now as I’m obviously biased and don’t want to abuse your hospitatlity (in fact, if you could provide some guidlelines about how you expect folks related to certain IM apps to behave here, I’d appreciate it – I for sure don’t want to attract your wrath!).
Thanks again for what I am sure is going to be a popular board…!
