Hey…My network is working fine but I have one computer that is on Windows XP Home Edition.. and the other is on WIndows 98 SE. Now it’s like really confusing how to get into the NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD on the Win 98 machine. Like if I shared a file on my XP machine to the 98..i can’t find it. It’s so easy on the XP one to do everything. I was wondering if anyone can gimme some pointers and stuff. Thanks.

October 27, 2003 at 5:05 pm #88886Jeff HesterKeymasterYou can run the Home Networking Wizard on the XP machine to check your configuration. It will even make a floppy disk for you to use to configure your Win98 computer.

I had to configure my router allow both computers to “see” each other, even though both could be online at the same time without a problem. Like you said, the XP part was easy. If you haven’t done it already, do what Jeff said. It will save you a headache with 98. 😉

Tho often, if you do not log on to the win98 computer with the same log in name (and password) as the XP computer you will not see the other computer, tho you will recieve a reply to a ping.
Weird.October 28, 2003 at 12:48 pm #88890FrutZleMemberHmm, maybe I’m missing the point here, but if the problem is easily accessing the other computer, just make sure both computers have easy to remember computer names, then open explorer and enter \computernamec (replace computername with the computer’s name, and c with the drive’s name or letter) in the address bar to go to the other computer’s C: driveAs long as the drive you’re trying to access is set to allow sharing, and nothing else (like a firewall) prevents network access, this’ll work. It’s always worked for me on several different versions of windows (98, 2000, XP all in one network).

Be sure to report back and let us all know if this was fixed, only in this way can we all learn something.;)
