MemberStress is one of the main concerns in the world today and with so much going on in each of our lives, it does not take long for each of us to become over stressed.
The doctors all tell us to get the proper amount of sleep, eat right and exercise.
But we all have little tips and tricks to help reduce stress like taking a long hot bubble bath or taking a walk.
I thought it be a great idea if we shared our little home remedies of how we fight stress. And who knows someone may see what you do and this can help them as well.
So ok then i will start the ball rolling and I hope many of you submit yours as well.
I found that sounds of nature helps me to relax so I bought a cd that has many sounds of nature mixed with a soft instrumental music playing in the background. I listen to this while I do a low flow stretch exercise.

ParticipantAhhh stress…now personally, I’ve never had -any- encounters in that area *grins knowingly at the other staff members* No, never, not at all *ahem*
Personally, with my mother being an herbalist, I like to go and deal with a lot of calming teas or (as funny as it sounds) huffing herbs (Yes, stick them in a little baggy and smell em…hey it works man), and even go as far as to carrying certain stones around with me. (yeah okay I’m a hippy, bah).
I almost always have a lavender candle or incense burning, as well as making sure that I have plenty of catmint/catnip/chamomile tea around to help me sleep. Amethyst is my friend (I tell you what). I have a rather semi severe case of anxiety as well that leads into more stress and insomnia so sleeping and making sure I’m getting out and at least seeing the sun once a day is a big thing.
Also making sure that you have a kind of routine to be sure that you get outside at least once a day is a great way to deal with stress simply because it helps your body distinguish when it’s sleep time and awake time, and gives you those vitamins from the sunlight that you may be lacking.
For you other folks that aren’t completely skeptical of herbs and their properties, for calming and stress relief Peppermint, Lemon Balm, Anise, Chamomile, Catmint, Catnip, Lavender, Ginger and Cinnamon can all be great teas.
As for other ways…I’ve found that walking, expecially at dusk when the city is winding down, can be a very calming kind of experience. We have a bike path that runs along side a creek, so that helps a lot. Just making sure to take time out of the day to chill and unwind is great.
… … …oh… … and killing things on Knight Online helps me *big cheesy grin*

Participantmusic.
seriously… when all else fails, i always have music. i’m never without music, if possible. obviously, places like church or class (class… never have to deal with that again) are sort of off-limits for listening to my ipod, but anywhere else i am, i HAVE to have music playing. i have enough of a variety of music that i can easily find something to listen to that matches my mood. sad? got it. angry? got it. need to just calm down quickly? got it. (by the way… Massive Attack is some of the most calming music i’ve ever heard… so is Zen and the Art of Chilling)
otherwise… i’ll go for a walk, or tinker around with one of my websites, or go hang out with friends… whatever i can do.

ParticipantAny kind of distraction *nods* I walk a lot…I tinker with insanely technical or time consuming stuff (like code…okay it is for me at least *glares at the folks it comes easy to) and such. Last time I was really out of my head I actually got really crazy into making custom desktop themes… *tilt* yeah I’m weird.
You’re so right, Tom…music. My mom and Ad actually made mixes for just about any mood. Though, I will admit, sometimes when depressed, all you wanna hear is more depressing stuff. It’s odd. But really, music is such an emotional involking type of art … it really is an outlet, not just for the artist, but for the listener as well.

at least you know when to shut your ipod off. i was taking a 100 level mass lecture biology this semester and this kid had it so loud you could hear it anywhere. even a kid behind me had his ipod on during graduation! can you imagine?

Participantgossipingrae wrote:even a kid behind me had his ipod on during graduation! can you imagine?i’m not gonna lie, i considered doing that. it was a 3-hour ceremony (supposed to be 2hrs) of names being read and people marching across stage, prefaced by an hour of standing around in an auxiliary gymnasium getting lined up and such. um… i wished for my iPod for four hours.

Participant*murmur* I actually brought my game boy to my graduation… *cough* … classy eh? Honestly…what a bore, and at that time, I would’ve rathered just picked it up later and called it good. At that time I was already out of my house for two years and really just thought of it as another distraction from life.
Though I did actually pay attention for the two past graduations I had to go to, my cousin and brother’s. *shrug* I’m not quite -that- tacky, heheh.
What pains me isn’t so much the reception of diplomas…as much as the speakers. They make my ears hurt. Nobody knows how to give a propper speech these days, ugh.

MemberThe kid two places down from me fell asleep during graduation…either that…or just passed out again…it was pretty funny in a way. My friends and I did not know him and we were throwing things and laughing at his snores. 🙂 It was just like MY bio class when people fell asleep…but the weapon of choice was Pez 😉 Talk about a stress reliever….they were not paying attention anyway…we actually were (some one was always on note patrol while the rest of us hunted down the sleepers…this was a HUGE class)

MemberWhen I am all stressed out I want alone time, just the peace and quiet so I can think.. I may get on the computer an talk to friends but its with all the sounds turned off, completely! Sometimes I just look around on sites I am on and not speak to anyone. Walking is a great stress reliever for me also. I walk fast paced when I am stressed so I guess it helps with some of the tension but I walk at night when its cooler and I walk alone (I dont suggest this to others) so I can think without interruptions.
Uhh just thought I should mention, the town I live in is Very Small .. about 600 people and I am related to about half of them in some sorta way lol So I guess I feel pretty safe walking around at night alone, am more afraid of the neighborhood dogs on the loose than anything else haha

That’s awesome! :woot:
Whenever I get really stressed out at school I just kinda plan out what I need to do and ususally it’s not as much as I think it is. From there I take it one step at a time. I listen to music a lot too. It really helps.
