Brief Introduction
The village of Sowerby is surrounded by countryside, with acres of green hills and farmland. I have lived here since I was born, in March 1987. In the eighteen years that I’ve spent here, the village has evolved from being an independent place, and has become more reliant on the services provided by another town, about a mile down the road, Sowerby Bridge. When I was younger, Sowerby had it’s own Post Office, Green Grocers, Butchers and Newsagents, right in the heart of the village. Unfortunately, these places no longer exist, and are now either demolished, or used for alternative purposes.
Halifax
About 4 miles away from Sowerby, is Halifax. Halifax is a larger town, and my place of birth is home to the local football team, Halifax Town, who currently reside in the Conference Division. (Heh!)
Halifax is busied, and is a sharp contrast to Sowerby. Countryside here is non-existant, however if shopping is your cup of tea, then come to Halifax! The town is home to several high street stores, including Woolworths, WHSmiths, JJB Sports, Boots, Burton and Game. Of course, shopping is not all Halifax is there for. Rumoured is that Halifax is the alcohol capital of the North, with the most pubs and clubs within the smallest area, although I haven’t actually got any statistics to prove that one! A night out in Halifax is always good though!
Summary
So, that’s all there is that’s interesting about my place of birth, and my place of residence for almost nineteen years. There’s some links below for you all, which are they only ones I could find.
History Of Sowerby Bridge
Sowerby BridgeI wanted to show you all some of this countryside that I rave about, so I took the digicam, and snapped some pictures. See attached.

BTW, I’m digging these hometown/postcard topics. It’s cool to get to know the people behind the avatars. 😉
February 15, 2006 at 10:44 pm #138344MartinBradleyMemberYorkshire itself is quite big, it’s split up into four regions, North, South, East, and West Yorkshire. I might be able to dig out a map somewhere…oh…not all areas of Yorkshire are as picturesque as that!

February 16, 2006 at 7:25 pm #138346sarahtownyMemberHey Martin great post! Going over to Haworth (Bronte country) next week will wave at you as I pass!
Love your pictures of the Moors, but the roads that way are so bad and tiny!
February 16, 2006 at 8:08 pm #138345MartinBradleyMemberThey are tiny, but that’s what makes it good! Kind of bad to drive on though!
About 5-10 mins away, there’s a dirty great big motorway, wouldn’t have guessed it would ya?!
February 16, 2006 at 8:38 pm #138347sarahtownyMemberAhh the M62 Martin but I don’t need that to get to Haworth! But get your point :0)
