Hey, can anyone help me out? I need to know how to edit aim so that you can have a longer profile without using subprofile.com or anything like that.
thx
March 23, 2002 at 9:16 pm #68852SathallrinMemberDo a search of your computer for info.htm
It should be in a folder here:
C:WINDOWSApplication DataAimScreennamehere
the screennamehere is the screenname you want to edit your profile for.
You can edit this html file in notepad. (you need to use html in it)And everything you put on the first line will be in your profile.
There is a limit to how much you can put on the line, but it is about 300 characters more than your normal profile.Save the file, and restart AIM and it should now be your profile. If you go into the profile editor in AIM. It will all be there, but wont allow you to hit save cause it will still say you are over the limit, so in order to keep it longer, you have to edit it again in notepad.
You can at any time use the editor in AIM, but you will still have the lower limit.

March 30, 2002 at 4:02 am #68850craigenheimerMemberdo you know how to do that in XP?
March 31, 2002 at 5:22 pm #68851SathallrinMemberI haven’t used XP, so I’m not sure if this will work. But I’m assuming that it stores your AIM data in the same way. Try and find the folder that stores your AIM data, do a search for AIM.
Since XP doesn’t really change AIM, or at least I don’t think it does, you should be able to do it similarly.~Sathallrin~

XP users should look in:
C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataAiminfo.htm
Replace with whatever name you use to login to XP, and replace with your AIM screen name. Oh yeah, remove the brackets “”.

October 23, 2002 at 2:20 am #68855FoxyBeachChikkMemberhey i have Xp as well but when i go to Documents and settings what comes up is All Users, because i share a comp. with my mom, dad, sisters, and brothers but we dont have our own usernames to get on so can u please help me i want to lenghtn my profile!
October 23, 2002 at 4:34 am #68848Jeff HesterKeymasterUse XP’s search feature (Start > Search). Select “All files and folders,” then enter your AIM screenname in the box that says “All or part of the file name.” See if that finds the file, then open that file with notepad (and follow the instructions listed above).
October 23, 2002 at 3:43 pm #68854FoxyBeachChikkMemberi cant seem to find the folder the only thing that came up when i went to start/search that was found was my s/n folder where it puts all my downloads off of aim. I have a folder on my computer where i put all my aim stuff like, Resources, Sounds, Patcher, etc. could it maybe be in there? If so what should i look for? I dont have to download aim again do i?

ScienceDecember 6, 2002 at 9:14 pm #68860toronadogirlMemberhey… i was just wondering if anyone had figured out a way to do this on xp… i’ve tried all the suggestions on here but i cant find it on my computer… on my old computer i had Windows 98 and i was able to do it very easily but for some reason i cant find the file i need on here…if anyone has any more ideas or figures this out for xp please let me know!!
December 8, 2002 at 6:03 pm #68859toronadogirlMemberhey everyone disregard my last post here, it was a lil tricky but i FINALLY figured out a way to do this on XP… what you need to do is go to start, search files or folders, then click all files or folders, then the important part, you need to click on advanced options and check the box to look in all the hidden and subfiles and folders, then just type your aim screen name in the search box and it should bring up a folder marked C:Documents and SettingsOwnerApplication DataAimyourscreenname … double click that folder and then right click on the file named info and click open with, then click notepad, then simply change the text of your profile in there to whatever you want it to say, then when you close the box click yes to save changes… hope this helps all of you that were having the same problems with doing this on XP that i was having!!
