MemberI saw this guy’s Profile and it said:
BRB, my screen name ill let you know when i get back man.But the thing is that it automatically knew what your sn was, without ever IMing him!! Then i tried it with other sn, and it knew it. Is this somekind of script in his profile. It was also in his away msg as well.

MemberHe really didn’t use a trick he just used what aim had already set up for the messenger. If you look at edit profile on aim at the bottom of the screen it says special characters:
%n= screen name of buddy
%d= date
%t= time.Hope this helps.
O ya one more thing search for your question before you post. I’ve seen this question before.:)

MemberIt shouldn’t…………….i just tried it and it worked. When you make the away msg you will still see %n. It only works if someone im’s you. have one of your friends im you when ur msg is up. Hope this helps!:)

KeymasterYou know, it’s funny, but it just goes to show you that people don’t read. I have the %n code in one of my away messages, and I get a lot of people IM-ing me all freaked out that I “know” their screen name. As Thunderracer points out, the instructions are right there on the screen you edit your away message in!

MemberFirstly, it will look like “Hey, %n BRB” in your away message window. If you view your own profile (clicking on your username on your buddylist, selecting “Get Member Info…”) you’ll see that it works.
Jeff, I have had many people get downright angry that their screen name is in my away message. However, I usually modify the text so it looks like a excerpt from a conversation with “%n” in place of one of the persons’ names. Then I get “I never said that… I’m suing you!”

MemberThat makes no sence if someone was to sue you AOL would be the one to blame (aol is to blame for a lot these days!), AOL set the whole code thing up! We didn’t put their name in the away msg, profile, or anything, we just put %n.

MemberI know that it doesn’t make sense. That’s why I do it. You wouldn’t believe the amount of AOL users that think they can sue for any reason whatsoever.
