How did you find BigBlueBall?

How did I find BigBlueBall?

Hmm…where to start…

I first met detn8r on Mess.be’s old forums where we was helping people out and I can’t remember who asked first, but we added each other to our contact lists.

Every so often detn8r would point out a post that no one else knew the answer to in the MSN Messenger section of BigBlueBall and he insisted I reply, because he always assumed I knew the answer :woot: (I believe everytime he DID point one out to me..I DID know the answer 😮 ).

So after a while detn8r became a part of this great community’s staff and he asked me if I wanted to be a part of the MSN Messenger team at BigBlueBall or something like that. I told him I wasn’t sure. I decided to do my research and found out a lot about BigBlueBall. After reading the many posts by their great staff members, I decided to actually participate more in the community and help others out, as a thanks to the great staff for the help and support they were providing the members with.

After a year or so, detn8r brought up the staff suggestion and I told him I was interested but nothing happened. A year or so after that, I brought it up and he talked to Jeff. Shifter had seen my posts and was eager to give me a trying out. And so, here I am. An advisor for the MSN Messenger section and the person who runs BigBlueBall’s IRC server.

I am really thankful to Shifter for giving me this oppurtunity (and Jeff, although he always says it is up to the team leaders and not him) and I am glad to be able to truly give back to the community and give thanks to Jeff and his staff by being one of them!

What research did I do?

Well. Well. Well… I decided to search for a number of frequently encountered problems with MSN Messenger and guess what came up? BigBlueBall. Usually in the top 3 results. Why was this important? I wanted to touch the hearts of as many people as possible and it was clear then that BigBlueBall was just the way I was looking for.

I spoke to a number of MSN Messenger Greats about BigBlueBall and it turns out THEY STARTED HERE. UnderDOC, Patchou, Dwergs, Heavy_K, Asdfuae (I believe it was them) and a number of other people I have forgotten (sorry! 😮 ). What better place to focus my attention on than the place that gave birth to the MSN Messenger Greats?

One last reason why I find BigBlueBall was because of the controversy caused by Patchou’s sponsorware. Since this forum touches the lives of so many people, it was key that I defended Patchou’s inclusion of sponsor ware here more than anywhere. And so I did.

So, there, I am done. THAT is how I found BigBlueBall and I don’t regret a second of the time I spent finding it.

My boss told me to go to BigBlueBall.com and research instant messaging,
and more specifically instant messaging in regard to webcams.
The webcam forum doesn’t seem to be used alot though.

Still, theres some interesting stuff here.

I’m glad that when I saw the results of the poll 8 other people had posted “don’t remember” because I honestly don’t. I’ve been racking my brains and I feel very foolish but it just won’t come to me. Anyway, here I am! This probably isn’t where I should be putting my first post [ie introduction] but I will do that next. And Spike, it’s just a hunch, but they probably found BBB from the Meebo forums (the fourth post down).

Was thru a search engine while looking for help on yahoo messenger quite a while ago. This site has helped me quite a bit and I’ve recommended it to a few friends. Figured it was about time I registered and gave something back to this community. Thank you for a great site
