KeymasterTry this free tool, courtesy of TechCrunch. It’ll download the video in FLV format, and you can use a viewer like VLC to playback.

ParticipantYouTubeMusicDownloader will do what you want quite nicely and with no hassle, but it’s not free. It’s $29.95.
There’s also a nice post on Lifehacker that will let you do it for free and with only minimal hassle.
While it’s safer than P2P in that you won’t likely infect your machine with any malware unknowingly – I feel compelled to point out that it does still violate the TOS for You Tube and is still technically illegal – but I’ll leave it at that.

And yes it’s free. I just put the youtube link and choose the convert to mp3 (audio only) option. Hope it helps. 🙂I was using the one by TechCrunch, as Jeff mentioned. But I really only wanted the audio, from acoustic versions of songs I saw on youtube, etc…So the vixy one is a great tool for me.
Thanks for sharing Nessa! 🙂

You can also try this website, KeepVid.com : Download and save any video from Youtube, Dailymotion, Metacafe, iFilm and more!January 28, 2009 at 11:56 am #171179Jeff Hester
KeymasterBest Method : Install trial version of “Real Player 11 Gold”. While the video is playing in the browser, move your mouse pointer over the video. it will show an option to download online video (Regardless of the website it is hosted on) on the top right corner of the frame.. click there & it will download the video to your hard drive which you can view in real player itself. 🙂
