Does anyone know how you can read the files in the yahoo archived messages (C:Program FilesYahoo!MessengerProfiles*yahoo ID* ArchiveMessages)? I tried using notepad, as you do for stored IM and normal message archives, but all i see is jibberish. I don’t even know why they have been saved but there they are.

Hi Arwen !
If you want to review your achives, you just have to select the “Tools” menu from your main Y!Messenger window and go to “Message Archive”. But consider that to be able to view archived messages, you must have enabled archiviging :
Preferences –> Archive (chose which category of messages you want to keep: Instant messages, Alerts or Conferences). Don’t forget to also enable the first option “Enable archiving”, and in the last one, to specify the number of days you want to keep your old messages. (I usually keep them one year ie: 365 days) 🙂

MemberI think you might also find this usefull http://morgontech.com:81/archive/archive.php
The author of the page states that if you follow the directions contained on the page that you will be able to read the text of any archive file that you have access to. Thus, if something were to happen to your Yahoo account, you’ll still be able to read past conversations between you and your friends.
I haven’t tried it so let me know if it is usefull.

MemberDave yes it does work… I have tried it on an old archive file.. on an id 2 yrs back dont now exsist. Its pretty much a very good one … there are archive viewers around.. but this one pretty much captures all the text in the archive with one or two glitches but you can understand what the word means.
Just am surprised.. and looks at Freddy.. coughs and says Surprised No one has made a decent Archive Viewer.. Hint Hint Hint… That One You posted dave is really good.. Wonders if one can go better and caputure all text.. Hint Hint Hint.. I mean only take a few mins as most of the code is already there ( thinks ) . But am not as computer literate as i love to be.
