Late last night . . . or was it early this morning . . . I realized that we all say goodnight to folks in different ways; whether it’s language or intonation or words.
So – how do you say goodnight?
My kids hear, “Ni night, dude”
My husband hears, “Goin’ in, g’night.”
Guests hear, “Is there anything you need? Okay then, good night. See you in the morning. There’s coffee and juice, cereal, bagels, fruit, eggs, bacon . . . just make yourself at home and help yourself to whatever.” (we’ve had a lot of overnight guests lately)
And God hears, “Thank you for another wonderful dayyyyyyyy . . . zzzzzzzzz.”
March 3, 2007 at 1:13 am #158857PhilipModeratorI say “good night” or “selamat malam” (Malay for good night). And I do whisper a prayer thanking God for another wonderful day before I doze off.

March 4, 2007 at 1:42 am #158850Jeff HesterKeymasterDepending on who it’s to:
- “Good night” (sometimes shortened to “G’night”)
- “Sweet dreams”
- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (depends on which key my finger is depressing when I happen to fall asleep).

I’m calling it quits
I’m hitting the sack
I’m killing the rest of this day, I’m heading to bed.
Off to dreamland
See ya in the morning
New tide coming in tomorrow, who know’s what it’ll bring. I’m off to welcome it.
I’m no owl, goodnight SIR!March 4, 2007 at 1:57 pm #158856PolarBearNPRParticipantMiami – you actually say all of that? I love them! Will try to work them in now and then.
March 4, 2007 at 2:23 pm #158853MrEggsaladParticipantNormally I just say “Going up” since my bedroom is upstairs. Then one of two things happens. Either they say going to bed and I answer yes, then they say good night, and I say good night. The other thing said to me is ‘okay, night” then I exchange a “night” and walk on up the stairs.
And Miami, I like that “I’m now owl, goodnight SIR!”. Nifty.
March 4, 2007 at 10:55 pm #158858Leapy LeoMemberI used to say “night night” as a kid and also to my first two kids when they were younger but now it’s always “Goodnight”.
I say “Goodnight” to my 7 year old now although it would have been “night night” to the first two at that age.
Mmm…never really thought about that before.
March 5, 2007 at 2:29 am #158855BShink21MemberMostly just “night.”
