I will concede that there are sometimes civilian casualties during the course of battle — usually referred to euphemistically as “collateral damage.” But that is distinctly different from purposely seeking to kill civilians, as with the train bombings on March 11 in Madrid.
Though the Terrorist who did the 9/11 and 9/3 attacks targetted civilians installations, the Frence Resistance targetted civilian trains because there were supplies on board, they still knew civilians were on them.

I totally agree with you, there is no way to stop terrorism, unless the terrorist agree to stop.October 20, 2004 at 9:10 pm #70206Quiksilver
MemberWhat if we listened to the terrorists? What if we found the source of their hate and anger? What if we knew why they are killing people? We can’t really do anything to stop it, we can reduce it by trying to talk to terrorists. I don’t see how that is possible though, the talking to terrorists thing. Can that be done? Is there any way that we talk to them and find out why they are doing what they are doing? Terrorism can be reduced, but it cannot be stopped. As I said before the world is not perfect and cannot be, therefore there will always be anger and hate. There will always be someone that dislikes the world and will do something bad to change it.

MemberPenguin Hunter, your answer is lacking a beginning (My opinion is…), and an argument (the reason why I think so…), please, this being a topic asking for opinions, read the sticky thread and make distinctions between facts and opinions.
You are warned, and your answer edited.

It’s a fair comment, because some people consider what the U.S. did in Iraq as a form of terrorism. I’d rather keep it open-ended and learn what (if anything) we can do about it.

ParticipantOh oh oh oh I know! *raises her hand* You tell them that the pope said it’s ok! *cackling* No no, I’m joking I’m joking.
Really, I couldn’t say what terrorists are. I would agree to say they’re deluted…they’re doing what they think is right by any means possible…it’s just that they seem to think that the only way possible is to hurt others. And I think people are thinking about country to country terrorism too much. W hat about those Peta people who release animals or spraypaint furs. What about those Army of God people who blow up clinics and shoot doctors? What about all the other little forms of terrorism. Terrorism is anything done specifically intentioned to inflict fear on a people, and really, that’s something that’s been going on for so long, I don’t know if it’s possible to stop. It’s in a human’s nature to pic a side and stick with it…and there are always fanatics.
Example: The fans that follow groups around the world for years…cry at all their shows…tattoo themselves, try and tear at them when they pass by…c’mon, why do you think that famous people can’t go out in public, because of people like them. Now, I love Edward Norton. He’s a great actor, and he’s a little cutie, but if I saw him, I’d probably not even say hello, or maybe a wave or smile, but that’s it (and spend the next week giggling like mad). Why? He’s just another person. But to someone else, they’d flip, scream, run at him and god knows what else. We both love him, but ones a fanatic and can’t control themselves. Same with causes, which leads to terrorism.
My opinion? Human nature to pick sides. When, and only when, there is another species in the gallaxy that drops in and says “Yo” will the earth band together. And then it’ll only be because the gangs have changed. No longer Israel against Palestine, no longer black against white, no longer christians against pagans, no longer country against country…it’ll be this Big Blue Ball, vs. Them.

KeymasterGet rid of Religion.
Understand that we all only want our own piece of land that we can call our home.
Respect each others opinions not just our own misconseptions.
Everybody wants to be heard , not listen or agreed to but to be truely heard.
Simplistic I know, easier said than done.
FYI :
The U.N. Charter prohibits the use of force except in matters of
self-defense. Article 2(4) and Article 51.A country is not permitted to use military force for purposes of retaliation, vengeance, and punishment.

MemberNah.. Religion is not just the only factor. The main things that fuel terrorism in a human being’s heart are greed, jealousy, fear and hatred ( though hatred comes from fear only ). Get rid of those things from your heart and u will get rid of terrorism.
1. Osama bin Laden behaves like this coz of his greed and offcourse jealousy of the prosperity of the broad minded world. U go n talk about girls shuld be wearing viels and he will hug u as a friend. But u go and talk about women power and he will shoot u there. Its meanness.
2. Saddam Hussein did things like that coz of his own greed.
3. We have terrorists in Kashmir coz of their own greed n jealousy of India’s development and improvement.
and so on and on.October 28, 2004 at 3:32 am #70209kron_19792000
MemberI feel all terrorism is born out of some fundamental need to prove a point or fight against some injustice real or percieved. Islamic terrorism is fueled by what is happening in Palestine. It is so easy to call the muslims terrorists but then what do you call the the Israelies. If they kill children/civilians it is called collateral damage if a palestinian kills children it is called terrorism.
Terrorism can be stopped. Root out the problem and terrorism will end. As they say an idle mind is the devils play ground. Make sure people can feed their families, work and live with dignity and you will get rid of 99% of the terrorists. There will always be fanatics unfortunately we will have to live with them and catch them before they do too much harm. -
