MemberOK heres the deal. Jon and I are moving. We have DSL here but where we are moving Verizon doen’t offer it. So we looked into our options. Cable stops 4 addresses away. Now keep in mind that where we are moving to that means miles. Ok so DSL is out as is Cable. Satilite! Bingo, we can get Direct TV. But they just do the TV part. They have another company that offers internet by using thier dish. To do this you have to buy this companys “hardware” and thats $600.00!! In addition they then charge $60.00 a month, remember this is a bill in addition to the Direct TV companys bill for the TV part.

ParticipantHave you looked into Yahoo! broadband? It may be available in your area.
The only thing is, it’s a PPPoE connection, meaning a VPN may be hard to establish.

Hey, dont knock it, it makes the earth move for me. 😀
Address: Australia, sleepy lil village, population 3000 (if everyone stays in town.)
Oh yeah, here satelite costs $600 for installation n hardware n 70 -110 a month for various bandwidth/speed combo’s,.. OK now almost double those figures quoted to appreciate them from a USA point of view.
On seeing a house with a satelite dish my mind flashes just one thought. “Rich bastards” 😉
Even the library, the epitome of technology here has only dial-up and as for the Community Technology Centre (CTC) run by said rich bastards, even that does not sport a dish on the roof.
Face it gurl, your choice was either a really nice location or technology, you made the right choice. You will adjust.
The local poice station has a dish and my resume to the local commisioner of police points out that I type, sweep floors, make coffee am both friendly and sympathetic, can be forceful if required and have ample boobs (to distract angry customers). to date I have not recieved a reply, even tho I did mention that I am not blonde.;) -
