I have a friend – who is a girl – and her name is Miranda.
At school, we have a girls’ choice dance coming up, right? So, Miranda decides to ask me out to the dance. Go figure. Of course, she had to think up a wild and crazy way to ask me. As I was eating out with my Dad a few hours ago, something transpired in my garage… something that probably took a lot of time and yet was able to be completed before I actually got home.
As my dad and I got home, I saw it: My car was absolutely raped. And by that, I mean it was absolutely covered in post-it notes and was filled with balloons.
So, I whipped out my pocket knife, opened the car door, and went ballistic on all the large balloons that inhabited the inside (My neighbors probably heard echoes similar to gunshots). Afterward, I spent almost an hour extracting the post-it notes from the exterior, and many of them said things like “would you go to the dance with me?” as well as other miscellaneous sentences and phrases. I did manage to find her name inside one of the popped balloons.
My question for you guys, however, is how should I respond? How should I say “yes”? I could do something cutsey, like get a teddy bear holding a sign that says yes and leave it on her doorstep but that’s not quite what I’m going for. I wanna do something epic. Not something that costs too much money (if I could hire a skywriter for free to write a message with clouds, I would, but obviously that would be considerably expensive). A massive fireworks display would be pretty sweet too, but again… cost and legality.
So basically, I’m open for ideas. Preferably ones that would be really awesome and epic. And would also make her go through a lot of trouble. 😉
Thanks.

Ummm – the only thing that comes to mind right away . . . a bunch of Hershey kisses – you change the little white tag-thingys to say “Yes” and various other nice things. And I’ll keep thinking. She sounds like a very creative girl!
Get a deck of cards and write on each card a little statement – one of them being, “Yes, of course we’ll go to the dance!” Scatter them all over “her” car and she’ll know if she’s found them all ’cause she’ll have a complete deck of cards then.

March 7, 2008 at 6:11 pm #167839sarahtownyMemberThat is just so lovely that she went to all that trouble.
One thing that comes to mind is you finding the biggest box you possibly can, then as many boxes you can find, that get smaller and smaller.. Until a tiny one at the end, with a message saying something like ‘I would love to go to the dance’ inside?
It would take her ages to get to the last one …. And is also quite romantic 🙂
Ps have a great time at the dance!March 7, 2008 at 9:41 pm #167836FanaticMemberWow, she must really like you. Of course you should say yes, if only to see what comes next! 🙂

I know I’m late on posting an update – I actually responded to her a few weeks ago – but long story short, it didn’t end up being as awesome as I wanted it to. I realize that I really exaggerated that in my initial post. But that’s ok.
I wrote “YES” on a piece of paper, and put it in a small plastic easter egg. Then I wrapped duct tape around it. I mean… tons of duct tape. Layers and layers. It ended up being almost as big as a basketball.
I then put it in a box with a message saying that I did indeed write my response in a piece of paper, but it got mixed up in a bunch of tape, hence forcing her to unwrap a lot of duct tape in order to see it.
I guess what makes it a little more interesting is simply the way I delivered it. I was on the phone with her one night, having a lengthy conversation with her (like we usually do). On this particular night, little did she know that while I was talking to her, I was not at home; rather, I was parked two blocks away from her house, walking down her street while wearing black clothes and a headset, carrying a package in my hands. Seemingly out of nowhere, in the middle of our conversation, I said “Hey, you should probably answer your door.” And suddenly her doorbell rang, with the package on her porch. It was pretty fun.
So yeah, the dance is this Saturday and I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for your input guys. 🙂

Great (and creative) way to answer. You’re gonna have a ball at the dance.

Ps have a great time at the dance! It’d be better if the note inside said sorry princess but your answer is in another box, call me for it.
Then it’s personal and annoying.
