If you try and sign on the account with any password it will say your account has been deleted. I used it on Natalieiscross44, try it.

Well its kind of a form of suspending. The only diffrence from being suspended is that is says “sign on blocked” instead of “your account has been deleted.” And of course with a screename is suspended it is forever unaccesible for however long AOL suspends them wich as of now is permanently. It would cause alot of problems if people could re-register a screename because other people might still have the screeename on their buddylist from the person that owned the screename before. That creates identity problems and an annoyance of getting imed all the time because people think ur someone else.
Why would you actually need to delete your account, you could just not use it again and it would have the same effect. And maybe in the future if you wish to reuse the name again, it will still be there.
Why would you actually need to cancel or delete your AIM account.. you can just not use it anymore and it will have the same effect, you can go ahead and sign up with new names all you want. This way if you ever decided to go back to it you could. If you wanted to cancel it so someone else could then register it… just go and delete all your buddies and info out of it, then change the password to something simple “password” ..tell them to sign in with it and change the password to whatever they want.
I wanted to cancel my account as well, for reasons of my own not open to discussion, so I emailed AOL support asking them about it. The reply I got is as follows:

To delete your screen name on the Instant Messenger, please follow the steps
below:1. Highlight the screen name in the AIM Sign On window Screen

Messenger service. The Instant Messenger registration server keeps the screen
name reserved for 12 months. After 12 months time, the AIM system will release
the screen name you deleted for re-use by America Online and Instant Messenger

I don’tt believe this one… I have this one screenname (it was my first one I ever got). After I got a new one, I never logged into it for 3 years, and then I decided to log into it once again, and I was still able to use it with the same password.
Also, there have been a few screennames I’ve wanted for a more then 2 months now, so have been watching them.. and I know they have never been signed in with, yet still are not relased “for re-use by America Online and Instant Messenger member”It may be a policy that isn’t enforced. AOL is slow and never gets anything done. Kind of like my MSN service, it was supposed to cancel 6 days ago but they still havent got around to it. I’m sure screenames must expire everyday and they must have 100’s to set for re-use. I also dont believe this because im sure their are many 3 char screenames that havent been signed on in 12 months and none of them have ever been set for re-registering.
well just cause some name doesnt show up on your list as signing in, doesnt necessarily mean they arent on. there’s always the privacy options to deal with… so who knows
