MemberHello everyone, I made this post on a couple of different forums so i’m going to copy/paste it below.
How do I create a forum and be an owner all for free if I don’t have a server?? What exactly do I need to do?? Do I need to hire an programmer for the board?? If so, how much does that cost or is that free of charge?? I don’t have any types of credit cards and I don’t have the money to pay for anything. How do I hire an mod?? Is it my choice if I want to be both the board owner and the Administrator?? If I choose I only want to be the board owner, does that mean I need to hire an Administrator?? How do I hire an Administrator?? How do I hire an Moderator?? I don’t have much knowledge in anything.. Do I need knowledge to become an board owner?? I wanted my board based on Warez and peer to peer (p2p). Where do I get free hosting from?? Where do I get free webspace from?? How do I build my own server from scratch?? Can someone walk me through this step by step if they own their own board?? Thanx everyone.

MemberYou can use PHPBB2 (http://www.phpbb.com) or Snitz Forums 2000–what these forums are hosted on (http://forum.snitz.com) if you want to host it on Brinkster or a website hosted that supports ASP and PHP. They are both free. If you don’t have a host, then the free providers mentioned above host it with ads.

ParticipantUnless you have experience with setting up forum software like Invision, Snitz, or PhpBB, your probably better off using one like InvisionFree (link mentioned above). It’s by far the best IMO.

MemberAlright I used InvisionFree. I will post my URL for the forum.

How do I setup my board??

KeymasterI’m also interested in creating a forum for my friends and I and our own band that we just made for people to post. I’ve never created one so would you suggest I use invisionfree? I’ve seen the other sites like snitz and their message boards look nice. Do you think I could learn to make them and handle a board well in a site like snitz or phpbb or should I stick with Invisionfree?

ParticipantInvisionFree can look awesome if you use good skins. I helped out 912 with his IF forum until he later changed the skin, but as an example, it looks OK.

KeymasterI haven’t registered for invisionfree but do they have skins of their own or do you mean you made the skin?
Oh yeah and do these free forum websites offer like an html code or something so that the forum is on your own website or does it have to be a link that goes to http://www.invisionfree.com/boardname? You know what I mean?

The whole problem with the last three posts is that you two don’t RTFM (Read the fu… erm, fine manual).
LittleShorty, a simple Google search for ‘Forum Software‘ brings up:
Forum Software (?) – http://www.thinkofit.com/webconf/forumsoft.htm
phpBB – http://www.phpbb.com/
Invision Power Board – http://www.invisionboard.com/
YaBB – http://www.yabbforum.com/
vBulletin – http://www.vbulletin.com/
Phorum – http://phorum.org/
WBB – http://www.woltlab.com
Snitz – http://forum.snitz.comOnto the next 11,900,000 results… so, please, LittleShorty, next time you post: validate the information you provide! This saves myself and other members from having to correct you.
As for you, MiamiGuy. Have you tried looking for the answer yourself? All of the forum software mentioned above contain detailed installation guides, as well as fine documentation and support forums. Happy reading! 😉

KeymasterI have read and I still don’t understand it. It’s like giving a kid a math book and telling him to read it and he’ll get it. Doesn’t work that way sometimes. You need a teacher or someone to teach you personally that has worked with the material. I’ve read them and then they go on to say other stuff about ftp and all that. I being new would like to talk to someone that’s experienced with that kind of thing personally. You did give me an idea though. Some of them have support forums. I’ll see if anybody is willing to help me personally in their sites. Thanks for the advice. 🙂

MemberMy favourite would have to be Create your free forum – FORUMOTION – Free message board hosting!. I believe it is user friendly, is easily customisable and fits my needs perfectly. But that is only my opinion. The best is what fits your needs the best.
