Mr V
MemberMSN Messenger 7.0.777
OK – is there a way to get rid of this daft thing? Patch from mess.be greatly removes all the other rubbish like MSN Today, Search, etc, can’t I get rid of this or turn it off (invisible) somehow?
Cheers

MemberYou can turn it off simply by unchecking it. You can’t actually get rid of the text itself.
Or in Windows Media Player…
Tools > Plugins > Uncheck the relevant plugin.

Participant1) Select the little arrow pointing downwards, below your nickname and to the right of your Personal Message area.
2) Click Turn on “What I’m Listening To” so it appears UNchecked.
3) (Optional) Disable the plugin in your WMP settings.

MemberYeah, I knew about both of those options, but was really hoping to get rid of the damn box… I figured, with patch that does all that funky stuff, removing the box wouldn’t be a great issue.
I may try to contact the guys who made the patch.
Thanks!

MemberI’ve found it.
If anyone is interested, there is another patch written by Ahmed, you can find it on
It has about 30 regular “remove & patch” features. Like it.

ParticipantWhat exactly were you looking to remove? What ‘box’?
April 12, 2005 at 1:45 pm #118874Mr V
MemberYou know the little space where you could “Type in a message to your contacts”, just in front of dropdown where you could switch on/off the “Turn on what I’m listening to”.
It was a transparent textbox just below your name and status at the top of the messenger. I don’t think that the Messpatch had an option to remove that as well but this patch that I’ve mentioned, has.
Cheers

MemberLOL you did original say that you wanted to remove the “what your listening to” feature (it says it in the name of this topic) and now you’re talking about something else!
I don’t want to remove it but I don’t like the way that when you open personal settings, the cursor goes to the “personal message” box instead of the “display name” box…simple problem i know…I’ll get over it!

MemberSorry for any confusion, it’s just that these two things were right next to each other. There was a box for switching on/off the “What I’m listening to” feature, and as if a part of it, next to it some textbox “Type a personal message to your contacts”. I’m still mystified what was the other one for.
No matter. It’s gone. Dead. Finito. Ceased to be. Ex-feature 🙂

MemberI don’t get why you would wanna remove the personalised messages mysel. I find it a great way of adding the same away message feature aim and yahoo have and not be restricted to the lame basic ones. each to their own I guess.

ParticipantIt’s like some wanting to remove some buttons in the conversation window. They are still accessable through the menus, but they sort of bulk up room. If you never use the feature, why have it there, right?
Anyway, even if you were to remove it from the contact list, you would still have the option to change it under where you change your friendly-name.
Also, thank you for your input Mr. V. I’ve been currently working with Rolando on new features for the mess patch vs. a-patch, so I will definitly let him know about this feature!

MemberBasically, I find the whole concept utterly useless. If I want to change my name, I can do so in – name field. If I am away or busy, I just put such a status on, and through a MSG Plus, define my own status.
Lastly, if I DID have a need for this – hell, it’s only in the Tools-Options. I don’t need another damn button for something I never use.
I admit, I am a bit of a purist. I don’t want it there. As Detn8r said, why have it there when it just bulks up space? I removed EVERYTHING from Messenger main window, apart from Display Picture, MSN logo and E-mail button. That’s the way I like it. Even from messaging window, I got rid of “Handwriting”, “Font”, “Packs”, hell, I even got rid of “SEND” button. When do you actually CLICK on send? Never. You always hit ENTER key, right?
Messenger is my favourite messaging software, but all this crap that comes with it, “MSN today”, “Search”, tabs, is just plain annoying. So these patches people write are a godsend. Without them, I might forget messenger and go back to ICQ2003 (the one you can kill ad banners on).
