My bad Netti…you are actually the first case on cable/dsl I have heard of. Thank you for revising this 😉

to make sure you have a good reason for trying to invade this Stalkers privacy. If she approves you can try to find out who the Stalker is.Ha ha… aren’t you so funny…maybe when someone invades your privacy your mind will change. Hoppy… I would talk to another FBI agent OR contact YOUR provider and ask them for aid in getting his IP…they can then forward it to the FBI or police. Also make copies of his messages for evidence.
May 23, 2003 at 3:00 am #63139hoopyMemberTy oreo, I will try my provider first. As to the other responses I did copy everything and send it to his local law enforcement agencies and the threats got worse. I dont see how protecting my children is an invasion of “his” privacy as he used my ip as a way to get my phone number and address. oh btw law enforcement can do that if they want to and they dont have to have an excuse. At what point does his privacy become more important then my children and my privacy?
May 23, 2003 at 3:46 pm #63135NettiMemberHey hoopy, if all else fails. How about telling your story to one of the local newspapers in HIS area. Providing them with all the details, as well as the fact that he works for law enforcement.
May 24, 2003 at 4:05 am #63129OreoMemberI hope that works for you Hoopy. And try Netti’s idea in addition to mine; doing a few things at once is the best way to succede with something like this. (Netti you are headed for my fav’s list with Jeff, Snuggle and Mariette…. You give great advice! Thanks for posting!!) Hoopy… let us know how things work out for you. If you need anymore help I am sure that someone will think of SOMETHING. This freak has NO RIGHT to do what he’s doing to you… and as far as I am concerned…for what he’s doing to you he LOST his right to privacy in this case. YOU have done nothing to HIM! How dare he threaten you… and threatening your children is just plain sick. Our thoughts are with you! 🙂
May 27, 2003 at 3:38 pm #63134NettiMemberI am in Total AGREEMENT with Oreo. Fight back!!! Take care of everyone involved!!!
June 1, 2003 at 1:19 am #63126DazMemberSorry Jess have to agree with Netti on this one. I have a xDSL connection and I have a dynamic IP address.
June 1, 2003 at 2:22 am #63145j_hop_99MemberIf u have packet decoding software u can see any ones ip who sends almost eanthing into ur computer…packet sniffers..and even firewalls can be modified to do that…
June 1, 2003 at 5:40 pm #63149JohnsonMemberok, this is pretty simple, but it won’t work if you are on Ytunnel, but the cracked version of it got patched the other night, this is easiest if you are only in a im with one person, and sometimes it don’t work , but most of the time it will, u just goto command prompt, an when u r chattin with someone type in command prompt “netstat” an hit enter, it will give u all of your open connections, and if you are chattin with someone they will usually show on port 5101, and if it gives u something like AC3R3t3.ipt.aol.com well to find their ip, you type in command prompt “ping AC3R3t3.ipt.aol.com” or w/e their name is, i got a buddy of mine he can trace static ip’s to the street they live on, still tryin to figure that trick out, some kewl ****, http://ws.arin.net/cgi-bin/whois.pl?queryinput=66.244.74.108 is a site, u can use it to locate someones isp just add the ip to the end of the link, this is very simple i’ve posted it on other sites, and some people can’t figure it out, just keep workin with it

B-O-R-I-N-G…use of Netstat has been covered here many times. Yes, it’s easy to get an IP… so what? Big deal?

Your friend is either misinformed or a liar. You can track IP addresses to the registrant. In nearly EVERY case that registrant is an ISP like AOL, a corporation, govermental organization or school. The best you’ll be able to do is find the address of the technical and administrative contacts for the registrant.
Tread carefully, Johnson. Make sure you’ve read through our Forum Policies and our Posting Guidelines.
June 1, 2003 at 8:13 pm #63148JohnsonMemberI’m no computer whiz by any means but know a lot about yahoo!, and as far as saying my friend is misinformed or a liar, maybe you are the one who is misinformed, there was this girl stirring up a lot of dust in yahoo games, we gave him her ip, and he traced it to were she lived, i don’t have the link saved were he traced it in to the street she lived on, but he freaked her out,
He said that static ips are given out in assosiation with were you live, and are traceable, he didn’t get into it too much but from that link it was obvious to me that he got her longtitude and latitude and used that site to trace were she was at, i don’t see why he would be lying about it, he’s the same guy who cracked the Yahoo id Hacker and he has discovered some elite exploits in Yahoo that no one else knew about. And as far as saying netstating ips is BORING, well maybe to you, but to someone who’s being stalked an having people explain to her how to steal someones ip, but only confusing them even more then wat they already was, i doubt it’s BORING to them. BORING to me is having to sign into a forum every time i want to post a response, i have been on many a forums, and usually you only have to sign in one time, and you are good to go. 😉
June 2, 2003 at 1:21 am #63119Jeff HesterKeymasterWell he’s smoking crack. He found her address some other way then. First, hardly anybody logged in through an ISP has a static IP address. A very, very small percentage do, but it’s less that 1%. Second, even those with static IP addresses are tied to a general region for the registrant, but not to a latitude and longitude.
I think your friend found her address some other way, perhaps through a domain she registered with her home address in the contact info.
As for logging in, you only have to sign in once, IF you check the “remember me” box next to the login form (duh!)
June 2, 2003 at 2:57 am #63147JohnsonMemberI know for a fact she had no domain name, and I have heard about people finding info on others that way, and as far as contact info, no one i know in yahoo, wants other people knowing their address, especially this gal, all she ever did was go around causing drama for everyone who didn’t suck up to her, the guy she screwed over was at one time her best friend online and he had no idea what her addy was, but like i said im no computer whiz, so i dunno exactly how he found it, but have no reason to doubt what he says, i have a lot of computer savy friends and if i had a major problem with anyone online he’s the first person i would goto, especially about the legalities of something. Next time i see him i will see what his response is to what you said. And as far as saving the pw, i had that option set and i signed in and it did not save it, every time i posted it would ask for the pw again, any forum i have ever posted on, at most i had to sign in once a day, and they had no, save pw option.
June 2, 2003 at 3:37 am #63118Jeff HesterKeymasterOk Johnson… I’ll confess that I don’t know EVERYTHING. Sorry if I came across so hard-nosed about it. I still don’t believe it’s possible.
As for the login bit, it works for me and everyone else I know of. Sorry it’s not working for you. It does use cookies, so if your clearing your cookies, that would explain it.
June 2, 2003 at 3:52 am #63146JohnsonMemberit’s all good, im not gonna sit an debate something i dunno much about, i got the pw thing figured out.
