MemberHoppy…sorry you are having such a terrible time with your stalker. Since this moron has Law Enforcement connection….you will get now where going through your local Law Enforcement agency.
What you need to do……check your White Page listings for the Internal Affairs Divison which covers your vacinity. I.A.D is specifically for Law Enforcement employee’s who break the law…….and they will tear him a new “YAHOO.”

MemberIt’s so simple, all you need to do is send the other person a file large one about 5mb or something this will give you time to get the IP Addess. While the file is sending all you need to do is go into MSDOS ant type Netstat-a, it will let you view all the opn and active connections, you can see the other persons IP address 😛 So simple but effective

MemberTY to all for your help! Ok quick update… I got ytunnel and so far have been rid of him for over a week (super iggied 13 names). Ytunnel also removes your name from their list at the same time. I also now only chat in private chat rooms. I contacted my isp, (and found out its a toll call, word to the poor and unwise make sure your ips has a toll free number). They said they would look into the matter. I contacted the Proper Authorities in Texas and this time got some help, they said he has been reported before and requested all my info. Thank you for the “internal” suggestion thats what I needed. I also learned how to cover my ip addy so this wont happen to me again (hint if you know how to do this dont tell what you use, they can get thru it if they know). I see several peeps on this forum asking for ip addys for all the wrong reasons and it scares me. I hope that these peeps realize what an invasion of privacy it is and how many nut cases there really are on the internet. To you stalkers of women sit down and watch fatal attraction again, I hope thats who you get the next time you steal a womans rights by taking her ip addy. As of right now thanks to all your help I feel much safer and have actually had fun in chat again. You are great people ty so much!

KeymasterI don’t know where you guys live, but the laws in my state concerning harrassment and stalking are more harsh when dealing with someone who is doing it online than with someone who is doing it offline.
Maybe they made the laws harsher to get the point across to people that just because they may feel braver when doing it online doesn’t mean they won’t be held accountable.
If you check out http://www.wiredpatrol.org there’s a listing of federal laws concerning cyberstalking as well as state laws. Maybe they can offer some advice to you on what you can do to get help.
By the way, I’m a man being stalked by a woman.

I too have called law inforcement and yahoo. they have gone as far as sending me a trojan being newer to computers i didint realize people in chat rooms could be like that. Good luck to you. If i find any infomation out ill let you know.

MemberDon’t say the law can not do nothing about it. Where I live somone who goes Into a yahoo chat room someone threaten someone, then the next day the person who had gotten threatened their hous was burned down and their 9 month old baby was killed. Now the authorities are checking a certain yahoo chat room records to see what was said and what was threatened and by whom, they did not release which yahoo chat room it was.
So to say nothing the law can do try again. They will help you if you print out copies of what the person says or if they keep stalking you using different names, I know alot of you will say it is easy to fake a message by someone. But if your telling the truth and post what really was said, they can check it to make sure.

MemberLet’s be clear about this from the offset. YOU CANNOT GET AN IP FROM YAHOO. By this I mean that, apart from when transfering a file, there is no direct connection between your machine and theirs. All packets are sent to a Yahoo server which then forwards them to the other user. So feel free to do a netstat or read your packet sniffer but the only IP you will see is for the Yahoo server. And as for getting their IP from a file transfer or by having them click a link to a server on your pc, which will also give them your ip, both these methods require the user to actually click the link or accept the download and I doubt a stalker will be that stupid.
Even if you do get an IP it will not tell you anything. A whois or look up on an IP will only show you the persons ISP and possibly the ISP’s head office address. LOOKING UP AND IP WILL NEVER GIVE YOU THE USERS HOME ADDRESS.
If you have a stalker in Yahoo then report them to Yahoo. Yahoo can access the IP’s of users and pass this information on to the law if required.
