Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here has knowledge or at least sites that can explain how to write add-ons for the AIM client similar to A.I.M. Frame or others. I can’t seem to find out any information on this, but apparently it can be done since there is specifically an add-in menu option in the client to configure add-ons and also there are people who write them. Can anyone help?

The reason I asked the question is because I saw on the AIM web site a link called “For Developers” and had assumed that there was some kind of plug-in architecture for AOL’s AIM. I thought perhaps the people who make DeadAIM used this. However, realizing that there is no public plug-in API I finally figured out how DeadAIM and those like it work. Its brain-dead simple. I could do the same now, but then again it could cause some legal problems. AOL is, after all, talking with the DeadAIM dudes. 🙂

The guy that was going to release XMODS(BlueIM) is going to be releasing a guide to tell people exactly how to make add-ons to AIM in a month. He was fired from AIMThings.com so he decided not to go through with releasing XMODS(BlueIM).

Yes, I am still here. What I meant originall is that I believe how they actually embellish the AIM interface is to simply create a hook procedure via a DLL that captures various windows messages. Once captured, of course, you can get the handle to various windows within the application and then embellish the windows how you see fit. I did something similar to this when creating our app sharing software so that instead of having to capture and process the entire application window, I could know what region of the window changed and just capture and send it.

Should get you started at least.
