First of all, I wanna say thanks for being there for me and my computer problems. I know I can always count on you guys to help a brother out. 🙂
Well, back in the day… my laptop died. It was determined that the video card is fried. Motherboard needs replaced, costing me $400. Well… I don’t have that kind of money… so…
Well, now I’m trying to get the hard drives installed on my desktop computer. They’re SATA hard drives, and my desktop has that ability. However, my laptop is Intel, and my desktop is AMD. Means I have to reformat it and do a clean install, right? That’s ok, because I got all the info I need on another hard drive. I’ve already tried to boot if of it, just in case… and it just goes in a cycle of reboots.
SO, I’m ready to do a fresh install of Vista. Luckily, I have HP’s Recovery disks for Vista. But that’s where I run into problems (as have many other HP users). They have some kind of security feature on those disks. I can’t use them, because it see’s that the motherboard is different than the one I burnt them on. It says something to the effect of “This PC is not compatible with these discs.” X_X
So… hehe, I look for a torrent. It’s legal, because I already own a copy, I just can’t use it because of HP. I find one, and got it all burnt and everything… and I get an error saying that it can’t find “Sources/install.wim”. Weird.
I look, and sure enough, there IS a “sources” file, and no install.wim. :/I’ve downloaded and burnt this many times. Same error. So I look at the HP recovery discs… and they don’t have “install.wim” anywhere on the disk. :/
Any suggestions? I’ve learned my lesson. Never buying from HP again.
PS: I saw that you can buy them for $18 from Microsoft… but I can’t even afford that (college will do that to ya 😉 )
I still have my Vista code, so that’s not an issue.
