Last night as I tried to log on to Yahoo messenger my avast warning went off alerting me it found a new trojan virus on my computer. I removed the file and ever since then I have been unable to log on to Yahoo messenger or WLM. All it tells me is that my password is incorrect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WLM, I dont really care about Yahoo, but I really need to get on WLM. When I choose the troubleshooting option it tells me there is a problem with the proxy or firewall and after doing everything I could possibly find online it has yet to change anything. Any help would be immensely appreciated.
First off, I would try signing in from another computer, just to make sure your WLM account still works. It is possible (although remotely so) that the virus was used to “steal” your password, which someone else could use to then reset your password, which would explain why it doesn’t work.
You could also try the “forgot password” link. That’ll send reset instructions to whatever email you registered the WLM account with.
As for the Yahoo account, can you sign into any Yahoo sites using that account? If you can, then you know the account is still good, and the problem is something else.
