I don’t like it because I don’t like the fact that ICQ is well known to have security holes. Even if you have a powerful firewall it maybe not enough:(
April 16, 2004 at 10:25 pm #81066ShmankyMemberWhich security holes?
April 16, 2004 at 10:27 pm #81063DoSMemberEl Diablo where did you get this info from! its wrong. ICQ is under the AOL server now and its protected from most of the worms that spread threw MSN messenger and other software clients, wich makes it even more secure than before. Icq had alot of bugs in 98-99 versions thats what I used and I dont have any idea about older versions. Its getting better and better everytime.
i think your one if the guys that believes in ” dont add number 5345623656. It’s a virus ” 😀April 17, 2004 at 10:00 am #81065ShmankyMemberThe bugs during the 98, 99 releases is what made ICQ fun!
* UIN spoofing
* system message spoofing
* flooding
* et ceteraApril 17, 2004 at 5:47 pm #81062DoSMemberShmanky I am with you on this one, and dont think it had to do anything with firewalls or internet connection unless someone would give you a trojan or your infected with one already)
El Diable you didnt even bother to reply. if you where serious about this you should atleast show us a reply or then you should stop your nonsense spam of ursApril 17, 2004 at 10:38 pm #81064ShmankyMemberTo be fair to El Diablo, there were publicised “security holes” in ICQ.
I think this one was the most popular, and perhaps the only one:
http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2002-02.html
CERT® Advisory CA-2002-02 Buffer Overflow in AOL ICQ
but we need to make a distriction between “security holes” like the one above, and bugs/exploits like UIN spoofing and fun stuff like that.

Yep, but this security hole has been posted and announced on the main site of http://www.icq.com and a fixed version was out pretty fast.
There also has been once a virus affecting ICQ last year, but this was fixed within 24h on the server site of AOL/ICQ…
