ParticipantHello TheseOceanSkys;
So you have a stalker, but you have never met him? Could it be that it is just one of your friends? AOL support for AIM is pretty bad, I doubt they would do anything, and even if they did, it’d just be a screen name suspension (In that case the ‘stalker’ would simply make a new screen name).
I’d suggest that you select ‘Allow only people on my list to contact me’ in your AIM Preferences.
If it gets any worse, you would want to contact the local authorities.
Good luck. =)

MemberThe real trick is that people online are not what they claim to be. Have a look at this article. Now this might not apply to your situation at all, but I did not want to rule out the possibility of something among these lines happening to you.
Most people online are not what they claim to be. Most of the things people say on the internet they will never say in real life. Something else to consider is that it could be that someone who knows you quite well is playing a trick on you.
However, if you do feel that this person causes a serious threat to you, report it to your local authorities, like David mentioned. They can give you advice, if not help you out.

MemberHave you given out any personal information? If so, that might be a problem. But if you haven’t and he (the stalker) knows you, then you probably don’t have much to worry about. I would also think about reporting him though

KeymasterTheseOceanSkys, report your stalker to abuse@aim.com including as much detail as possible. If you have chat logs, send those as well. If you have a serious problem, they’ll take it seriously.

MemberAIM is a free service and they probably make little profit off of it. It’s more of a promotional tool for AOL, so they really don’t give a damn. :-/

MemberThe story is a lot longer. I knwo this person is a real person. a friend of mine knows him. I have already blocked everyone on my BL when he originally started this, but now he wont stop and started IMing my boyfriend.

Do you know this for a fact? I think AOL would be concerned about negative press that an actual AIM stalking would generate — concerned enough to investigate and take it seriously.
In any case, what do you have to lose by trying?

MemberHere is something I did to catch someone in my college that was harassing my friend. I tracked him down the the dorm and room actually and he nearly crapped his pants when my friend was banging on his door. He wants pics, well tell him you agree and will send some. Open up a com’and prompt, ex start/run/cmd or command in 98/me. In the command prompt type ‘netstat -n’ that will show all your active network connections. Connect to send picture and type that again, but there will be one more connection listed. It should be under port 4443 if I remember. Now take that IP. Hopefully he has a static ip, which with broadband popular, he probally does. Now type ‘nslookup’ followed by a space and the ip. You will get the dns info on his ip and most likely his isp. Now you can call his isp, tell them about the abuse, and call your local police with printouts of all your logs. Dont be afraid not to, YOU can get his isp to terminate his service in threat of a lawsuit.

MemberAIM wont do crap period…just confuse him and do the following: next time he IMs you tell him you know who he is….then dont respond at all after that….no matter what he says, he will be thinking that you really do and over a short period of time he will stop:D

ParticipantQuote:quote:I’m not sure about you, but I think if she unplugs her modem, she won’t be able to reply? Well I noticed this thread is just an extension of a thread in the AIM forum. I think TheseOceanSkys should stick to just one thread so everyone reading a single thread can get the most information to helpNo this actually makes sense! Copy and print out the logs of him stalking then unplug the modem so that he really cannot do anything to her computer. If this is all a hoax then so be it… the information was useless and she is getting a good laugh. If this is for real then then there is a good chance this stalker is doing it to other people and it definently needs to stop. I did what I did because it was the right thing to do. She can reply to it when the police/FBI have taken care of it and its over with. So what!

Global ModeratorQuote:quote:Agreed, please use the original thread to respond to this problem – I have a stalker.I stronly disagree with you here shifter… Give the girl some breathing room for today – If this were all true and she does really have a stalker who is threatening her then retaining to the same post is the last thing on her mind. In fact it was nessecary to create a NEW posting so that she could get immidiate help for when she posted it was 11 PM and the time of the threat to take place was 3 PM. Some females in that position would truely panic and I took that into consideration. This is the very thing we as netizens might be called upon to do again someday so please be aware of it. It won’t be the last time some a$$ threatens a young lady online with this form of mental abuse.

ParticipantIt’s fine that she started a new thread, and I understand she may have wanted info quickly (A forum is not the best place to get it quickly though), but it’s better to keep all of the info in one area so others can find the info better. I included a link to this thread in the duplicate thread, so I really don’t see any legitimate reason to complain. Its standard procedure for duplicate topics from the same member and I don’t see why this would be an exception. Anayway, we’ve covered this topic many times and the general consensus is to do the following:
If you believe you are being cyberstalked or harrassed in chat/messenger you need to do one or all of the following – report the offender to abuse@aim.com ; contact the local authorities; and visit http://www.wiredpatrol.org for more information and help.
