Okay, someone has it out for me. When I’m logged into AIM at work I get a message saying that my s/n has been logged in elsewhere. I know who is doing it (though he is just someone from online…not someone I could actually track down in the real world). I repeatedly change my p/w and mix it up w/numbers and letters and he keeps getting in.
What can I do? I deleted everyone from my buddy list and created a new one, but I’m still wondering how it is that no matter what I change my p/w to, he hacks it.
Thanks.

He might have access to your email. If he does, he can do a “forgot password” request and have the password sent to your email and then delete it so he would never know you were there. I doubt this is the case as most people wont go to such drastic measures to hack someones account, but its a possibility.
January 19, 2005 at 9:21 pm #112350deanna7564MemberI only use AIM, I don’t have an email affiliated with it.
Any other thoughts?
January 19, 2005 at 10:26 pm #112358tylongMemberdoes this person u think hacked ur account actually talk to any of the ppl on ur sn…like have u asked ur friends if they noticed it or not??
January 19, 2005 at 10:32 pm #112359tylongMemberThe one way far off possibility i can think of at the moment is if u tried one of thoes send an email to like a aimserver123.hotmail.com and hack others passwords where its actually a prank and they trick u into giving them ur password(very common on a google search of hack aim)…if u dont use ur email then it is possible he changed the email to one of his own and will see u changing ur pass.. long but but thats all i came up with lol

When you register for an AIM screename you provide an email. So yes, you do. =)
January 20, 2005 at 7:21 am #112345lodf619Membertry going to MyAIM>Edit Options>Update Email Address
from there you should be able to change the email address your screen name is associated with…
once you do that you should change your password…if you use aim on your cell phone or any other mobile device, make sure you log out from your mobile…
January 20, 2005 at 8:11 am #112346neo_ny_23MemberRelax. It is also possible to find out your password if some one has hacked ur computer as a whole, not just any screen name or email id. He might hv sent some key logger to ur computer, and as a result of which he comes to know about ur email addresses and their passwords easily.
Such a thing is nothing new or big. And also preventing ur computer being hacked is also very easy if you follow these steps in order:1) Download either any anti-virus( like Norton AV 2005 ) or Webroot SpySweeper which I wuld recommend as in some cases its even better than Norton AV. You might also want to download Lavasoft Adware.
2) After download any of above, do a complete, and a thorough scan of your computer for any trojans or key loggers.
3)(Optional) Sometimes what I do is that, on my windows xp, when I suspect something is going wrong somewhere, I press Ctrl + Shift + Esc together which brings out the Windows Task Manager. I click “Processes” which lists all the softwares/processes running on my computer at a given time. They are named like, svchost.exe, or winlogon.exe, or like ypager.exe or aim.exe… The list depends on different computers and different times and shuld be from atleast 20 to 50 or more. So I go to Google.com and search for each of the services.. like what they mean and what is their primary function.
For example, I dont know what explorer.exe does.. So i search for explorer.exe in google to get my answer. From the search, u can know whether its a virus or trojan or any malicious service or something which is essential for ur computer.
If its a virus or a trojan or malicious service, I right-click on it and then I click “End Process”. Atleast this procedure lets me know if there is some kind of virus running on my computer without doing any kind of scanning.4) After removing all trojans/viruses, just change ur password, secret question, secret answers, date of birth, alternative emails and u will be all fine. Its also recommended to install some kind of Fire-Wall which protects ur computer and lets u know regarding any possible infections or attacks.
Do let us know if any of these worked or not.
PS. Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that never accept any kind of file from any strangers. Double scan ur file using different anti-virus/adware/spysweeper, if its extension is anything like “.exe” or “.scr” or “.pif” or something which u dont know before opening it. Extensions mean like if a file is named as bigblueball.exe, then “.exe” is the extension.
U can find out the extension of all ur files by this:
Open any folder. Then on the top bar click “Tools” > “Folder Options” > “View” > uncheck the “hide extensions for known file types”.Sometimes if some one has hacked ur friend’s id, then he/she might pose as ur friend and can send u a file which could be a trojan or virus. So be careful about those things.
January 20, 2005 at 3:35 pm #112351deanna7564MemberOkay, apparently you guys assume I’m an idiot of some kind…my husband is an IT programmer so our computers all have top of the line anti-virus and firewall protection. The email account that was affiliated with the AIM s/n was deleted the last time this guy (who has been pulling this for 4 years now) got into my accounts.
I don’t even have a way to retreive my password from an email account so I sincerely doubt he’s figured out a way to.
In the past he’s claimed to have some sort of program that allows him to guess ANYONE’s password. Someone asked if he had chatted w/anyone on my list and the answer is yes. That’s how I knew he had been on my s/n because he was talking to my best friend and she knew the difference. Yesterday, he proceeded to hack into her yahoo and aol messengers.
I guess he does have a program.
January 20, 2005 at 6:31 pm #112347neo_ny_23MemberMay be that program is something like a cracker, which has a long list of possible passwords and when u use that program, it just uses permutation and combination of all possible characters to find out that password.
By the way, u culd hv told us in the beginning that u do hv anti-virus installed and have firewall protection. My duty was to help u in all possible way i culd and I did that. I dont see any reason why u took it as some kind of offence.
January 21, 2005 at 1:52 am #112349cuteb0mberchickMemberthen why didn’t you just make another id?
January 21, 2005 at 3:51 am #112341Someguy03MemberAlmost every cracker in existence is dead, I extremely doubt this is the problem. And what do you mean your email was deleted? You had the company delete it for you? Or can you just not access it?
January 21, 2005 at 4:24 pm #112352deanna7564MemberI deactivated the account. You can do that on Yahoo. It’s not like AOL/AIM where the name stays out there forever.
January 21, 2005 at 5:34 pm #112348neo_ny_23Memberhmm.. something is realy wrong here. he is hacking all ur ids and, u just cant do anything. Either something is realy wrong with ur security settings or we are realy dealing with a smart person here. I wonder if he can hack my ids 😕 that will be a fun to see though. haha. Also it might divert his attention from ur ids.. he might be tired and bored of hacking ur ids.
January 21, 2005 at 8:37 pm #112353deanna7564MemberI have a way I can trace his IP if I can get him to click my aim profile…however, I know he logs in using AIM Express…so when I log into AE I look at my profile..and the link doesn’t show in my profile..
Any ideas?
