Memberif you go to http://mytheme.com/smile.html, it uses COORDS to make links on the picture. Well, i was wondering how you know what each a COORD is for each smiley. On my site at http://imsecrets.tripod.com/miscsecrets/id14.html , look at the picture on that page, just the picture, nothing else. How would i know what the COORDS are for each smiley?
Please help me!August 25, 2003 at 9:44 pm #91278shifter
ParticipantRight-click on a blank area of the mytheme webpage and select ‘view source’. This will show you the HTML coding used for there page.

ParticipantOk, some quick help…Coords are used for image maps. Each location you need to link is determined by the pixel coordinates you input into the coding.
COORDS= “x1,y1,x2,y2” – Where x1,y1 are the coordinates of the upper-left corner of the rectangle and x2,y2 are the coordinates of the lower-right coordinates of the rectangle.
Check out http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/properties/coords.asp for a bit more info. I don’t have time at the moment to do a big tutorial, but if you are still having problems I will explain it a bit further later tonight. Good Luck.

MemberI changed the picture, so it look like http://imsecrets.tripod.com//newsmileys, but is there like a program or sumtin that you highlight the part of the picture you want, and then add the link? Anyway, thanx for the help!

Participantyour link didnt work – you accidentally included the comma in the url… but this one does work, no comma http://imsecrets.tripod.com//newsmileys
if you have Microsoft Photo Editor, you can open the picture in that program, and use the marquee tool (this thing –
)to click and drag a square around the portion of the image that you want… down on the status bar it shows what the current box boundaries are as you’re dragging… those are the numbers you want, in that order (like shifter said, x1, y1, x2, y2)
you could go to MS Paint and do basically the same thing, but it involves a little bit of math in that case. select the rectangular marquee tool and position the mouse at the first point you want to start the hotspot at (meaning basically the top left corner of the picture, but it could be any corner). then glance down to the status bar to see what the current mouse coordinates are. write that number down (we’ll call it X1,Y1) or remember it or something… then start to drag the box over the portion you want, and watch the selection coordinates change… eventually it’ll show two numbers like “25×45”. that’s the SIZE of the selection you just made… (let’s call it X2,Y2) now add you have to add X1 + X2, and Y1+Y2 to get the new secondary coordinates.
OR… yet another solution… try going to the Draac.com image mapper tutorial’s built-in coordinate finder. type in the link to your picture where it asks, click submit, and follow the directions. although that picture of yours is pretty big, so unless you’ve got a fast connection… might want to try the other ways first
thats all i have for now… there’s probably other programs to do the same thing
EDIT: found a new host for the marquee pic; also the corrected link

MemberThanks Tigerblade. The last one, draac.com’s tutorial, was really helpful because coords and image maps are a bit fuzzy to me. I am good to go now. You helped me even though I didn’t post. That is the benefit of posting problems over other methods.
