MemberI notice on the aim section that they have a faq section at the top, seems like it woud cut out a lot of peoples problems here. Seems like 50% of the problems we deal with here, they have previously been dealt with.

MemberI thought it was appropriate, an maybe could discuss some things here to put on it. I don’t mind helping people out, but its redundant to deal with the same problems 2 or 3 times a week. And it’s not really fair to direct someone to another thread, cause it could just end up confusing them more then they already are, from people getting off topic and what not. Most common problems being, login problems, getting booted, ytunnel ?’s, webcams, harrassment, etc.

KeymasterI think it’s a great idea. What topics should go in the FAQ? Let’s get a list started!

MemberHow to get an IP address?
If you are using webcam, IM with a buddy, IMVironments or file transfers, you can start a dos prompt (start>>cmd(NT)/command.com(9x,ME)) Type netstat at the prompt.Y!Tunnel or Client or Firewall?
Y!Tunnel is a proxy server ran locally filtering packets, it can only filter what it knows will crash messenger, a subscription costs exists.
Clients work differently, more boot resistant, and free(except cheetachat).
Firewalls wont protect from bootcodes, but will help the stop of p2p activity.Status Message Removal
(1) Add 5 new ones
(2) Get a program, http://www.carbonize.co.uk/Yahoo/yprograms.php (Messy Stuff)
(3) Use regedit, edit key: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareYahooPagerprofilesCustom MsgsSome points that I think have appeared once or twice;)

MemberHowever, under each of these we should have some sub-sections because some people seem to have similar problems that are not cut and dried…because there have been similar ones like the ones Freddy has mentioned…and they’ve had similar twists… Something like…”If you see this happening (i.e. many chat requests etc…coming in; this is what’s happening and this is a way to fix it.”) Should we also, in the FAQ, have links to the similar posts if the FAQ does not give enough info?? (I don’t know if the other ones have that, I’d look @ the AOL one but my reg. PC’s hard drive died…this one is SLOW!) But that’s an excellent start Freddy…you never let us down! Also, who is going to write these FAQ’s?? Is this extra work for Jeff?? The worst thing about an excellent idea (and it IS an EXCELLENT idea Johnson…..I have to give credit where it’s due!) is making it happen.

MemberThe idea here is to be very general with the answers, and give them the most common problems/solutions for each category. This isn’t to completely eliminate people from posting with these problems, but this way when someone posts maybe they will only have to post once, or twice, or 3 times, instead of 4,5,6 times. It’s just not very efficient to deal with similar problems over and over, this would give everyone somewere to start from. And i guess we could also include old threads that are informative in the FAQ’s. And also you could always suggest things to add to the FAQ’S to build onto it. If i’m posting on some forum, I want to solve my problem asap, not have to mess around for 2-3 days to find a solution, i’m a very impatient person, everyone can be, especially when you have some kinda annoying problem to deal with.

MemberXP is built on the NT kernel, sorry for confusion.
I recommend start, run, cmd
command.com is the dos command line, and runs very slow in XP, and always result in an unresponsive app on my XP Pro. It’s the only option for 95,98,ME etc… but runs properly in these versions.
cmd is the NT command line interpreter, it runs faster and executes the same commands.
