Here’s the thing. I want to downgrade to an older version of ICQ but I don’t want to have to redo all my contact list stuff. Is there any way to back up my ICQ database in 2003 and import it into older clients? I don’t know how far back I’m going, so I don’t know if it will grab my list from the server or not…
In my opinion, there are 3 categories of ICQ clients:
ICQ 97 – 99
ICQ 2000
ICQ 2001 – 2003
If you want to go back to ICQ97-99, well you can’t because these clients can’t connect to the ICQ server.
ICQ2000 is different in that it is to only client to have Notes, Reminders, 2do List. It also did not store the contact list on the server.
ICQ2001-2003 seem to be essentially the same client, so that’s the rationale for the grouping.
If you return to an ICQ2001-2003 client, your contact list will be retrieved from the server, but I’m doubtful that you can import history from 2003b because 2003b had a completely different history format than anything in the 2001-2003a clients.
If you want ICQ2000, you can use cracks that bypass notification and add each contact manually to your local list.
Open your ‘My ICQ’ bar if you want to save (back up) your contact list before you downgrade.
When backing it up, I won’t be able to import it into an older client though with the standard ICQ save contact list.
