Interested in free software for ripping DVD’s?
October 19, 2003 at 2:29 pm #69775FrutZleMemberAs stupid an unbelievable as it may sound, I prefer to buy originals of all my CDs (I don’t own very many though) and DVDs (I own way too many of those). I lend them to friends and family, and I don’t care what they do with them as long as they bring everything back the way they got it (unscratched).
I’m not saying I never make copies of my audio CDs ’cause I do, but that’s just so I can have the copy in my car and won’t have to worry about the CDs getting scratched when the damned things get stuck in the stereo and I end up throwing them around…. Uhmm, but I’ll save that for therapy 😉October 19, 2003 at 6:22 pm #69777TigerbladeParticipanti’ll admit, i do have a DVD Ripper on my computer as we speak, but i dont really use it at all… if i could get one that did a better job, then sure i might use it occasionally… i’ve used the one i have all of twice, and then deleted the result anyway cause it just didnt make the cut. the program drops a frame or so every once in a while, so there’s a lag between audio and visual, makes it really hard to watch
but ok vote me in
October 19, 2003 at 10:14 pm #69776IndyToneMemberI just got a DVD burner for $115 that burns both DVD+ and -. (http://store.yahoo.com/livewarehouse/dvne28950.html) Now I just need to learn how to rip/burn them so they will play on my Sony DVP-NC655.
Good free software for this (so I’ve been told) is DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink plus what ever commercial burning software you might have.
October 19, 2003 at 10:39 pm #69772FanaticMemberJudging by the amount of spam I recieve on the subject, I must be very interested. [:P]
I’m more interested in DVD authoring. I’ve got a ton of DV tapes that I’d like to encode and create DVD menus for. It would be a cool way to archive this stuff for the History Channel to dig up in the next millennium.

DVD Decrypter http://www.dvddecrypter.com and DVD Shrink http://www.dvdshrink.org/ are both free. Burn4Free is a free burner from http://www.burn4free.com although it does contain scumware.:(

For DVD authoring check out the commercial product Cyberlink Power Producer http://www.gocyberlink.com , also take a close look at DVD Lab http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/index.html
