MemberShort soliution:
in the registry there is LiteBannersActive, LiteCLBannerActive, LiteInterOpActive, you set them all to 0, after with regedt32 under Security, Permissions you set all user read only access to those registry keys.
completly disable all the ads in icq, as well as white spaces 🙂
if you need more detailed information … you can try to contact me, or you can enjoy bans …many thanks for you attention

The posibility of being hacked is too real.

1) winXP do not have regedt32
2) regedit allows to choose security level for section in registry but do not allows to choose security level for fixed registry keysAugust 8, 2003 at 7:49 pm #92254Pilkis
MemberKoma
1. I am using only windows 2000 and windows 2003, in windows 2000 there is regedit and regedt32,but only with with regedt32 you can set permissions. In windows 2003 there is only regedit and it’s also allow to set permissions on registry key, so looks like windows xp same like windows 2003 ( or windows 2003 same like xp )
2. Nope, it’s not correct, in your case you have to do following:
you sellect the 3 registry keys what I mention above ( you can select 3 of them at once ) after you go ( here I am using w2003 ,but I guess should be same and with xp ) Permissions , Advanced… , after you have to uncheck the “Allow inheritable permissions from the parent to propogate to this …blablabla” , after its asking do you like to copy permissions from parrent, answer copy, and after you set like I set all to read only.August 9, 2003 at 11:50 am #92249koma

MemberThen I don’t know , this soliution was working for me and for my friend as well. In case it matters, i provide the registry all settings for icq lite … you can try to compare:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMirabilisICQICQLite]
“SRPKey”=”No”
“NewInstall”=dword:00000000
“WantSkin”=dword:00000001
“SkinFile”=”icqstd.skn”
“UseModemFlg”=”No”
“ActiveNotInListOptions”=dword:00000001
“GreetingCardURL”=”http://www.icq.americangreetings.com/icqorder.pd?mode=send&design=%s&title=%s&recipient=%s&text=%s&sender=%s”
“SMSServiceActive”=dword:00000001
“NewICQPro”=dword:00000000
“ActiveInternetTime”=dword:00000000
“SkinsLinkVisible”=dword:00000000
“LiteInterOpActive”=dword:00000000
“FileName”=”D:\Programs\ICQLite\Skin\icqstd.skn”
“LiteBannersActive”=dword:00000000
“MagicNumberSite”=”ads.icq.com”
“LiteCLBannerActive”=dword:00000000
“BannersIdlTimeLimit”=dword:00000005[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMirabilisICQICQLiteUpgrade]
“BuildNumber”=dword:0000047f
“LastDate”=dword:000000cdSeptember 12, 2003 at 3:15 pm #92256PACE
MemberPilkis is right – this works excellent and is less work than you think. I just installed latest build 1269 and got rid of the advertisements AND the white spaces left by them, as well as the worthless welcome screen.
Here a complete and hopefully most simple step-by-step guide:
*) First, shut down ICQ Lite if it’s running
*) Click “Start”/”Run…” and key in “regedit”
*) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMirabilisICQICQLite and change the values of LiteBannersActive, LiteCLBannerActive and LiteInterOpActive to “0”.
*) Now right-click on key “ICQLite” (in the left pane) and select “Permissions”
*) In the permissions window, click the “Advanced” button
*) Now, deselect the first checkbox which says something about inherited permissions and click “Remove” in the appearing dialog, which will remove all entries in the list, then click the “Apply” button. Why? This will remove all permissions set on this key and disable inheritance. We have successfully blocked ALL access to this key and it’s values.
*) Now we have to re-enable value reading so ICQ can find out what we think of its advertisments. Click “Add”, key in “Everyone” and click “OK”. Now just select the “Grant” of the second entry (“read values”) in the list and click “OK”. Close the other permission windows with “OK”. Note that we gave Everyone access to this key, for simplicity reasons – this will be no big security issue 😉Now you can test this by simply trying to change the value of one of the entries to anything else with regedit – you should receive an error which says the new value could not be written.
*) Additionally, you can get rid of the welcome screen by opening HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMirabilisICQNewOwnersICQLite and changing ShowWelcomeScreen to “0” – ICQLite should not be running or it will re-enable this value!
FIN. Start and enjoy your new ICQ 🙂
Bye,

MemberHm. I must be missing something; I’m having problems with “right-click on key “ICQLite” (in the left pane) and select “Permissions””
When I right-click “ICQLite”, all I get is a menu consisting of “Find”, “Rename”, “Delete”, and “Copy Key Name”I changed the values specified here to “0”, but they just revert back to the original values straight away.
Help?

ParticipantIt might not work with WinME. I’m having the same problem.
