KeymasterICQ has released a smaller, slimmed down version of ICQ that uses less memory and eliminates a lot of the fancy features in favor of the basic ones. It’s called ICQ Lite and I like it!
Here’s what it looks like:
The Login Screen
The Contact List
The Message Window and Smiley Selection
What is ICQ Lite Missing?
ICQ Lite includes basic instant messaging, SMS, and file transfer. It does not include mult-user chats, ICQphone, file sharing or the “check email” features; for that you’ll need the full-fledged version of ICQ.But for my needs, ICQ Lite is perfect!

MemberICQ Lite is fantastic!!! I still have some friends who are died-in-the-wool ICQheads, and I’ve always hated the thing for it’s overly complex interface. This looks simple-and-clean; the way instant messaging was meant to be.
And the real kicker…. I don’t see any advertisements! [y]
I’m surprised no one else has jumped on this topic? Is ICQ that dead?

MemberICQ Lite is a nice little program. I haven’t had the chance to play with it because I still prefer the Pro ones.
I don’t think ICQ is dying. I read somewhere some years ago, that most Americans prefer AOL IM/AIM over ICQ, while people in other countries prefer ICQ and MSN over AOL IM/AIM.
I’m hoping AOL would speed up allowing ICQ users to communicate with AOL IM/AIM users.

MemberYes, I know this is rather a old thread. 🙂 Sometimes, it is wise to read through instead of reposting, etc. 🙂

MemberNormaly a usesing MSN, but I play a online-game.
In that game we have to communicat outside it.My english isn’t the best, so i use MSN, but not everyone in the game has MSN, so i have to install ICQ. First i was trying with ICQ Pro 2003a, that i shouldn’t do. When downloaded ICQ Lite, and like it, it easy to use, and so on…

Memberive only started using icq about two weeks ago one person (and yes ONLY ONE) that I need to get in contact with alot refuses to use any other messager well id like to know how to change that receive message sound and if there is a way to set it up to press enter to send the messages instead of having to click send all the time I could probly figure it out on my own but knowing my luck id screw something up and have to reinstall a dozen times before I got it right so I figured id ask some more knowledgeable people about it before I end up reinstalling icq so many times I start having icq dreams

Memberhappy_virus_99 – I’m sorry, I don’t know anyone by the name of Theresa and I’ve never been in that help chat room.
shinobi – I think you can do this by going to preference (Main >> Preferences >> History, Alerts and Sounds >> Sounds.) Anyway, in case you’re unware that you’re able to add ICQ users to your AIM now.
