ICQ Lite: Is it possible to remove ads?

Hey dudes,

Don’t do so difficult! just run a patch which do the hard work for you!
E.g. look http://www.allseek.info/?p=icq – patches for various Icq ver.

I’ve found a way to remove the annoying ad n the box altogether.
search for these 2 files:
banner.xml
– C:Program FilesICQLiteLiteDataFilesbanner.xml
clbanner.xml
– C:Program FilesICQLiteLiteDataFilesclbanner.xml

Then use a text editor like notepad open the file,

Look for the first occurance of , delete everything from that line onwards…including that line…

Do this to both the files…

After that change the properties of the files to read only n hidden.

That’s it…..Remember to make a backup…juz in case sumthing goes wrong…

Nice to know about deleteing those files and creating the folders. I had to take an extra step and delete the datafiles.xml file and create a folder in its place, too. Why? I kept editing climage.gif and climage.html but they kept getting downloaded from ICQ. 😀

So far I think doing the folder tweak is better than going into the registry. I wouldn’t recommend mucking about inside there. LOL

I did the same thing. But it just gave me a blank box on ICQ. I liked the logo better, so I put it back.

Ok here are the steps I took one by one:

Deleted banners.xml, clbanner.xml, psearch.xml and datafiles.xml

Created folders with the same exact names as the files I deleted

I copied a different GIF file over climage.gif.

Voila! My own image in the client and no banner ads.
