ID problem?

Lately whenever i add someone to my msgr list,..my name and last name shows up on thier list..and i soo dont want that happening…is there a way i could stop that from happening?

You have to go under your main Yahoo account and change the info there. Whatever name you put there is what will show up on the list. Just change it to initials or a fake name.

or alternatively SomeChick, when you’re doing the Add, doesn’t it pop up a little box showing your name, and you can either accept that, OR change it right there, to whatever you want that person to see ?
(That happens with my YM anyway, version 7.5.0.333 Beta).

Anyway, you’re far from the only person I know quite upset with this rather cavalier attitude to our privacy that Yahoo seems to have developed lately (Y!360 is another very bad example!).

Thank you for asking the good question here – hopefully we’ll get more input on the matter. 🙂

I did try to change my name under the main account,..but it still shows..it’s a mess

Ok SomeChick, I’ve done some more checking.
(By the way, glad u could manage to read the responses, AND find your way back in here to post again. Good progress! 😀 )

I tried to add you to my YM list. Yes, it “wanted” to send you my real name, but… it gave me a chance to CHANGE that first (see screenshots below). So I DID change it, and I’m sure you WON’T get to know my surname when/if you accept my Add request.

Frankly I don’t know WHERE Yahoo gets my real name for this, but I really don’t care, as I always “Change” it before adding someone (IF I want to).

So the only question is – do YOU get that same window I show below ? (and what version of YM are you using?).

Again, thank you for raising a very worthwhile topic. 😎

Try checking your contact details from the Yahoo messenger menu. I’m not sure of the exact menu, as I am not on my home pc right now and have no access to Yahoo. If you can’t find it, I will update this post with the info. I think that is how I changed mine though.

I had the same issue… I went under my main Yahoo account and went under address/contact info and changed it to my initials. SO now my initials show when Im added. I dont know why it didnt work for you.

Thanks alot ya guy’s,…Amy..i did try what you’ve said but unfortunatley it didnt work for me,..but i tried what you’ve said eagle,and you’r right,..it gives ya a chance to change it and i didnt even know it! thanks alot,..lets see if it worked..i just added ya on to my list..:)
