when buddies on ur buddy list are idle, they are supposed to turn a lighter grey color…well upon my last reboot, this still happens, but the change is not nearly as dramatic as it used to be. i can barely tell when a buddy is idle or not anymore. i didnt change any video or monitor drivers since then so i was wondering if anyone knew how to make them ‘greyer’ … or any other suggestions would be much appreciated…thanks!
There isn’t a way through AIM to make them look ‘grayer’… Although you might want to try adjusting your contrast/brightness… That is the only thing I could think of besides, trying to redownload the AIM program… perhaps it is a script error?
well the thing is i didnt change my brightness contrast in months, but just for kicks i messed with it for about 5 minutes, no combination seemed to make any difference. it’s not that they arent grey, u just really need to look close to be able to tell, i just dont understand, it wasnt always like this…
well looks like i found the answer myself…ive never seen this documented so im kinda proud 😛 … anyway…if you go into your registry, and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelColors … there is a key called ‘GrayText’ … this is the value of gray that Instant Messenger uses when dimming your buddies when they are idle. I simply used a MUCH lighter version of gray (you need to use the RGB value for the color) and rebooted…sure enough it worked PERFECTLY. i actually cant help but wonder what would happen if i used an RBG value of something other than gray. Could I then have, say, light BLUE idle buddies? Seems likely though I haven’t tried it yet. Anyway, thanks for trying to help!
