MemberIt appears that someone has changed the password on my yahoo account and I can not access my account any longer.
I have tried the Forgot your password? link, but the info I entered when I created the account was bogus, and I can’t remember what all I entered.
And I also tried emailing Yahoo but they emailed me a secret question “Who is the king?” But I have ZERO Idea what the answer to that question could possibly be… I think maybe the hacker entered that as my secret question; if I did, I don’t remember what the answer is. I tried a few things (Elvis, Attila, etc…), but no luck. I haven’t pissed anyone off, so I can’t suspect anyone; this was a random attack or something as good as winning the lotto, only I don’t get a pleasant surprize this time.
I have no idea what else to try, but I REALLY need to gain access to my account. I made the mistake of using it as my primary email account, so that all kinds of critical info are stored in this account. If it was done online, and it require an email address, I used yahoo. Things raging from my classes that needed email for some reason or another, to my financial aid info, to RMA request for a damaged Shuttle XPC.
So I was wondering… If someone was able to gain entry into my email account; shouldn’t it be possible for me (or someone else) to do the same?
No keyloggers were used, no one else knew my password, I did not give it to anyone, no trojans, no nothing… However they gained access to my account, it wasn’t through my computer, it was through another weakness in Yahoo…
I forgot to mention, I did a search on the forums here… I read this post and I looked through Johnson‘s posts, and I didn’t see anything or anyone with a resolution to my problem…
and the Yahoo Messenger FAQ doesn’t provide any solutions either… BTW, I arrived at this forum, through google searching…
Can anyone PLEASE help me?

MemberFirstly you need to jot down what your user name was and password and have a copy of the secret question loaded on the screen. Now phone yahoo on tel 020 7808 4200 if your in the uk or for the us number call (408) 349-3300
Now phone them up and request that your account be changed and given a new password. Explain to them the question you got on the screen and ask them to check if any other i.p addresses have used your account other than yours. Then if thats the case yahoo will just simply restore your account with a password they give you. Then you can change it and the fool that hacked your account will be barred of yahoos server.
Easy when ya know how.

MemberLOL, please don’t read what gaz said because it made absolutely no sense at all. OK, you emailed me, and said that your account was dark__kn1ght, and you said that “And I had entered bogus info on the age, zip and what not, and I have no clue what it could be…” but yet you say that “I tried a few things (Elvis, Attila, etc…), but no luck” so right there you are contradicting yourself. This is very fishy to me, normally i wouldn’t think anything of it but, dark__kn1ght is a rare/illegal username cause it has two under spaces in a row, this is the type of id that a cracker such as myself would target. I got some ideas on how to recover it, but unless you can prove that you created this account, I’m not going to help you. I myself acquire accounts such as these, but i make sure they are no longer in use, theres a few ways to check whether or not they are active.
As of right now, from what you said, to me it seems like you are not being honest, but, if i ASSUME you are telling the truth, odds are your account was accessed by someone either cracking your password or stealing it, there are many crafty password stealers out there, i have used them in the past, i have gotten the same people with them multiple times, unless you are on the lookout for them and know what to look for, you won’t find them.
No cracker is going to have your secret question changed, i know a guy who stole some accounts, and he called yahoo to get the secret question changed, and they ended up deactivating his account, you have to know all of the original info from when the id was made, one of the few logical things yahoo has come up with, only the creator of the account would know the original information. Theres some other ways to go about this, but unless you can prove you made this account in the first place, im not going to make any suggestions.October 5, 2003 at 6:42 pm #54996Ruroni
MemberI know, he doesn’t make much sense, I already emailed yahoo; the short and sweet was no secret answer to secret question, no access to account…
I can undersstand why it would seem fishy. But believe me, it is my account…
I have no idea how to prove it, but IF you can actually get into it, I can tell you one thing to look for that will ease your suspision…
The main reason I want to get into it, is because prior to it getting cracked/hacked or what have you, is because I had sent out for an RMA #.
think about this, what good is an RMA# except for the person who owns the piece of hardware to return? RMA from who? From shuttle.
I think with that; if you’re able to gain access to the account you should have little to no doubt the account is mine.
As to why I tried Attila, Elvis or what not, it’s because the secret question that yahoo told me was: “Who is the king?” Well, there’s king Jesus, Elvis was the King of Rock, Attila was nother king… So I was just trying to guess the answer to the secret question, but I had no luck.
The account is my own, and the double underscore and the 1 is something I chose a long time ago before yahoo changed their username policies… Basically, I could not get dark_knight unless I wanted numbers (dark_knight1996) I’ve had this account for years. I justs want to gain access to it, get my RMA number, some of my contact info, salvage what I can and never again use yahoo as my primary account. Back in the days I thought it was a good idea since it’s web based, and I could access from anywhere…
As for how it was cracked, I have no idea, I don’t recall pissing anyone off, and I didn’t give away my password; however they got it, I figure it must been through yahoo…
So, if anyone could help; I would greatly appreciate it, and they can rest assured that the account is mine… And I can prove it via contents of the account itself…

MemberJust cause you have something in the email doesnt mean you created it, you could of cracked it previously, and then used it for a while, and then lost it. You still arent makin any sense, an if u contacted yahoo they would of asked for a photo id, an theres a photo in the profile, would be quite easy to prove whether or not it’s you.

Who in their right mind would use someone else’s email address for an RMA# (even if they thought they’d stolen the user ID; why would you risk something as serious as an RMA# on an appropriated account)?
Quote:quote:Originally posted by Johnsonan if u contacted yahoo they would of asked for a photo id, an theres a photo in the profile, would be quite easy to prove whether or not it’s you.
They never asked for a picture… I wish they would, but I offered it and they said the same thing they always say…
I told them that we could enter any contracts, I gave them my home number and said we could talk on phone; anything they wanted, just let me gain access to my account, and they said:
no secret answer; no access.
Also, what is to stop the hacker from deleting or changing my picture?
I know for a fact that my account was hacked by somone because I have a friend who says they saw “me” online… But how could it be me when Yahoo wont recognize my password (at least, the one I set for my account)… So clearly a hacker got in and used my ID… And it wasn’t a Yahoo bug, because they exchanged words, and the last thing the person said was “I’m changing back to my other user name”. Clearly someone has infiltrated my Yahoo ID…
So I repeat my question… If a bad hacker could do it, why can’t a good person help me out?

MemberI use an email account of an id that i didn’t create, they will never get it back in a million years, I am not alone, many other people do the exact same thing, with no problems, these accounts are old and inactive. This is very simple, yahoo will ask you to fax them a picture of a photo id, eg. a drivers license, see what they do is match up your birthday and zip from your drivers license, and i have known someone in the past that lost their name, an got it back, only because they had their picture in the profile, they didnt even create the id. If they aren’t mentioning this, then you need to be more persistent, BUT, if you get mouthy with them on the phone and become impatient, then they will just deactivate the account, and if you are 100% sure that it is stolen, and u cannot recover it, why not get it deactivated? You haven’t proven to me that you created this account, still, this is your second post, im really beginning to think that you didnt create this account, your next post will tell me, if you even post at all.

MemberI don’t know what your poblem is Johnson. Why on earth would I persist trying to get access to an account that is not my own. Not withstanding, I am tired of your accusations, and your persistence that I don’t make any sense, Johnson. You are unable to help me; it is clear now. So please, stop with the unfounded accusations, I am fed up with it; specailly when you’re going to be zero help.
I see that my english is not strong enough to convey what I am saying.
I keep saying:
1)I entered bogus information on my account, when I created my yahoo ID, because I didn’t want to enter accurate personal information for something online. (this was over 5 or so years ago) And I can not remember what the hell I entered for the account creation; I didn’t expect to need to prove that the account is mine.
I thought maybe you were able to help, and I have offered to show you proof that I am the owner of the account, such as pictures of me that are not in the account (because anyone can download and send the same pic, but only I would have pics of me, not on the web), and info that is pertinent to the account. I’m sorry my english skills lack the ability to explain this in terms you understand.
2)With time I came to trust my Yahoo account, enough to where I used it for all the things that require an email account. That was my mistake.
3)I already asked yahoo about picture ID, and they said: no answer to secret question; no access to account. They didn’t even address the picture comment directly.
If I were to fax my drivers license, the picture would be me, the owner. But the info would not match because the info entered upon creation of the account was fictitious. Again, I start to realize my communication skills are inadaquate to lead you to clearly comprehend what it is that I am trying to say; my appologies. I realize I write kind of stiff, but I can’t help it, it is what comes natural for me.
From here on in, if someone can not help me; I would appreciate if they could refrain from the unfounded accusations; I have offered ways of proving that I am the owner of the account (info contained within, pictures of me, account details), once someone talented and benevolent has infiltrated the account… And if the reader can not understand something, then please forgive my poor communication skills, but unless you have a specific question, refrain from making all-statements such as “You still arent makin any sense”.
Thank you

A good reason not to risk anything you cannot live without on such an insecure email client as Yahoo as well. If you enter in bogus info upon signing up with Yahoo, you are in effect violating there Terms of Service, and you therefore have no rights to your account anyway. If this is truly your account, then unfortunately it looks as though you are screwed. This forum also clearly states in our Forum Policies that discussions of Account Hacking of any kind is not tolerated. So hence the lockage of this thread. Sorry we can’t help you any further.
