I don’t know if this is possible, and I’m sure that it’s probably not, but that’s why I’m asking. Is it possible to ignore an entire forum at once when viewing the “New Posts” page? For example: I know absolutely nothing about Yahoo Messenger, I never read the posts in the Yahoo forum, yet I always see the Yahoo posts in the New Posts listing. is there any way to not see those?
if not, that’s fine, just curious.
May 18, 2005 at 11:52 pm #122021Jeff HesterKeymasterIt’s not possible on the “New Posts” page (at least, not yet). But there is another option that you might consider. You can subscribe to the forums that you do care about, with “no notification.” Then, visit the My BigBlueBall page and you’ll see your own personalized version of the forums. Of course when you view a specific forum, topics that are “unread” by you show up in a bold font to help you identify them.
No, it’s not the same as the “New Topics” page, but it kinda does what you’re asking for.

May 19, 2005 at 2:24 pm #122022Jeff HesterKeymasterAnything is possible, but that doesn’t mean that it’s the right thing to do.
vBulletin is preparing a big update to their forum software. Every custom edit or tweak that I apply to these forums will make the upgrade to a new version more time consuming.
I prefer not to make those changes for two reasons,
- The new version will be coming out in just a few weeks.
- There are other features that perform a similar function.
Tigerblade, try the solution I suggested and let me know if that helps.
August 17, 2006 at 7:46 pm #122028RU Still DownMemberthank ‘god’ for user scripts. if you have greasemonkey on firefox, use opera, or have some sort of extension for internet explorer that allows you to use userscripts you will be interested in this user script TigerBlade: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2324
i’m using this script in firefox with greasemonkey and it works great! (i’m not sure if it will work on other browsers because i don’t have them installed) 🙂 you just have to modify it a little. change this line
Code:// @include http://www.domain.com/forums/search.php*to
Code:and this line
Code:filter_keywords[0]=”Forum 1″;to
Code:filter_keywords[0]=”Yahoo! Messenger”;this will filter out all forums that have “Yahoo! Messenger” in their name. you can also filter out other forums just edit the list.
hopefully this works for you. this script seems sorta limited because you can only filter out 6 forums. i guess you could modify it but i don’t know how to.
August 18, 2006 at 6:59 am #122026SpikeMemberLooks like a great script. What if a post in, say, Other IM has the word “Yahoo! Messenger” in it, though, would it block that, too? OR is it designed specifically for forums only?
August 19, 2006 at 12:11 am #122027RU Still DownMemberi didn’t write the script, but as far as i can tell it targets the forum names only. it does not filter out posts that have Yahoo! in their title or text. after using this script for a couple days i realized that “Yahoo! Messenger” is more properly replaced with “Yahoo!” because of the multiple Yahoo related forums on BigBlueBall. also the “searchid=” deal will cause the script to not work if you are not logged in. this is because the fourms use an extra hash (“s=hash”) when displaying results to non-logged in members. to fix this problem add this line
Code:// @include https://bigblueball.com/forums/search.php?s=*or replace this line
Code:with
Code:// @include https://bigblueball.com/forums/search.php?*in case you lost track of all the replacements here is the final script:
Code:// ==UserScript==
// @name Vbulletin “Search Result” filtering
// @namespace http://www.katapultstolpiller.com/greasemonkey/
// @description The script removes lines with content matching the filter list on the “New posts page”
// @include https://bigblueball.com/forums/search.php?*
// ==/UserScript==// This is where you enter the forum sections you want to filter out.
var filter_keywords= new Array()
filter_keywords[0]=”Yahoo!”;
filter_keywords[3]=”Forum 2″;
filter_keywords[3]=”Forum 3″;
filter_keywords[3]=”Forum 4″;
filter_keywords[4]=”Forum 5″;
filter_keywords[5]=”Forum 6″;// Don’t edit below this line unless you know what you are doing!
var allElements, thisElement;
allElements = document.getElementsByTagName(‘tr’);
for (var i = 0; i < allElements.length; i++) {
thisElement = allElements;
for (var n = 0; n 6){
if(thisElement.innerHTML.indexOf(filter_keywords[n])!=-1)
{
thisElement.style.display = ‘none’;
}
}
}
}save this file as vbulletin-searchresults-filter.user.js and open it in firefox (with greasemonkey installed). click the “Install” button on the top and have fun filtering out the Yahoo! related forums from search results.
note: this script will filter out not just “Today’s Posts” but all Search Results. so disable it while searching for Yahoo! specific topics.
