Okay, I have a Mac and I downloaded “Psi.” Everything seems to be working fine. I have a Gchat & AIM account “talking” to another. I guess the technical term is called “transporting.” So that seems to be working fine.
Here’s my issue:
I want to be able to GChat to GMail users as well as AIM buddies using my Gmail “screenname” NOT my AIM screen name. I created my AIM screen name when I was in elementary school and I consider it unprofessional “these days” as I am using it to chat with business clients. The only reason I don’t get rid of my AIM name is because everyone “knows” that screen name. So, in other words I want my Gmail name to be displayed rather than my AIM name for whoever I am chatting with, whether it be Gchat or AIM buddies. Is this possible?

I am not familiar with Psi, but AFAIK, the AIM protocol does not have any way for you to send a nickname (like YMSGR does) to your buddies. And I have never heard of any protocol allowing you to change your login username and remain on your contacts’ lists – you can see the inherent identity issues that would arise if this were allowed.
My suggestion is that you create a more professional AIM screen name and notify your AIM contacts, OR download the AIM client so that you can link your professional screen name and your old screen name, and use the appropriate screen name to talk to your friends and business contacts at the same time.
As a side note, this is the first I’ve heard of someone using AIM professionally. What business are you in, if you don’t mind sharing?
And oh yeah, welcome to BBB!
