I came across this site after exhausting all suggestions on the messenger help page. I’m hoping your expertise can help me out.
I’ve been using messenger for about a year with no problems, all of a sudden last night I can’t send messages. BTW, I’m using windows 98 and was using yahoo 5.6 but in the last 24 hours have uninstalled it and reinstalled 5.5.
I can log into messenger but if I try to send an IM the window doesn’t come up, nothing happens but I’m still logged on. I’ve never used the yahoo chat rooms but I tried last night and it lets me choose a room and says it’s entering but the chat window does not load and freezes up.:mad: I don’t seem to be having problems with any other programs.
Some of the things that I’ve tried to fix it are:
uninstall and install messenger (multiple times)
changed versions of messenger (5.6 back to 5.5)
down load the riched32.dll file from yahoo (this file was already on my computer)
repair messenger
repair explorerPlease help!!
When you say repair messenger do you mean from control pannel/add&remove programs? By double clicking it in the list?
What did you change at about the time is stopped working?
Check in the preferences that its set to open a new PM box for each new PM. Otherwise it wont open PMs.
Also when you said you went from 5.6 to 5.5 you needed to have done a FULL uninstall from the control/panel because otherwise files get left over that 5.5 has trouble working with.
Check the scripting options in tool>>internet options>>security, custom level, scripting options are near the bottom, all should be enabled.
I’m not sure exactly when in the last week messenger quit working.
The only major change that has occured is that Comcast took over my internet service from ATTBI and I did download Acrobat a few days ago.
This morning I uninstalled messenger again from the programs menu. I then cleared out my cache files and all temporary internet files, restarted my computer and installed messenger 5.5.0.1219.
I double checked the scripting and it is all enabled.
It’s still not working and I just don’t get it. PLEASE HELP!!!!:(
