MemberThis HAS to be something obvious. I’ve just installed Windows Live messenger and gone to import contacts but it’s not there. It should under contacts in the drop down menu at the top or the icon on the right hand side. Sorting contacts isn’t there either. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled, and I’ve searched the options but I cannot find anything that could possibly turn import/export contacts on or off.
Can anyone shed any light? It’s been there every other time I’ve ever installed Windows Live Messenger!

ParticipantYou are correct, it “should” be listed under Contacts on the main WLM menu.
I do know the pushed out an update to WLM the other day, so if you have the newest version, that’s probably the reason. There have been a lot of contact list issues over the last year or so, and it is possible they have disabled that feature temporarily. (Highly likely since they definitely removed the webcam option).
I would suggest that unless you really want the newer version (which appears to be something of a downgrade) you head over to Filehippo and grab the previous version.

MemberI don’t think I have the latest version – I used the same installation file I used on 2 other pcs on the network a couple of weeks ago, unless it pulls the latest version from the internet when it installs of course?
http://www.neilogden.co.uk/messenger-contacts.htm is what I’m getting.

ParticipantCheck your version number from Help > About Messenger on the main WLM toolbar. The latest (not so greatest) version is 14.0.8117 the last version (which still had the feature you are looking for) was 14.0.8089. If you have the newer version and want to get that feature back, you’ll want to uninstall WLM, then download the old version from the Filehippo link.
I have the latest version on my work computer and I just checked it. You are 100% correct! The import contacts feature has been removed.
They’ve also removed the webcam feature based on a write up I saw earlier this morning. If you get an invite from someone in the newest version, it will be denied and you never know they even tried. Another good reason not to install the latest release or to roll-back if you already have.
